Lights when the Front Left and Right speaker outputs have been set to different levels in the OSD, i.e. a balance adjustment has been made.

You can look at the relative levels of all channels as described on Page 14.

Very loud noise coming from amp as soon as amp is turned on..noise will not fluctuate with the volume..noise stays constant?

This will be the large Electrolytic Capacitors in the Power Supply. You can't miss them. They will over 4700uf or around that in value. Replace them all, even if only one has gone. I think what your hearing is the 50/HZ hum from the mains getting in.

I have an onkyo tx-sv444 receiver that the word protect comes across the screen and then shuts off what should i do about it

When the word protect shows up it means trouble. The circuit that shows the warning and shuts the unit from working has detected a short somewhere in the unit. More than likely one of the output transistors but not always. Have you had a power failure lately? Lightning strike? Power bump? If so the problem could be in the Low Voltage power supply. First unplug the unit. Take the bottom off if it has a panel which can be removed separate from the complete bottom. Under the panel should be the output transistors. Check to see if any are shorted with a DMM. If you find any they will need to be replaced. If you do not find any you will probably need a competent tech to troubleshoot the unit. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Protection overload and the system shuts off

Reasons: 1. Short in the wire, speaker, or amplifier 2. Amplifier malfunction 3. Overload of the amplifier 4. Overload of the speaker
Listening to audio at loud levels requires more power obviously. But the speakers and amplifier may not be rated or capable to handle it due to age or design.

Protection overload and the system shuts off

check your speaker wires for short, try to turn it on without speakers connected, if all connections and speakers seem ok the problem is internal witch can go from blown power supply to shorted output devices and everything in between , and as always look for repair shop in your area, do not attempt to do it yourself, fire hazard and electric shock are the things we all want to avoid ;)
