Re: format issue

If the hard drive is formated as fat32, and you are trying to move a file larger than 14 mb (i think) it will ask you to re-format the hard drive to NTFS

This hard drive needs to be repartitioned and formatted first then you should see actual amount. You can do this when selecting the drive in windows 7 installation

Make sure the drive is listed in the BIOS matching your serial, model number, etc incase you purchased this from ebay or second hand.

1. Ignore the message.

2. (Recommended) Copy your data from that device to some other storage device, and then format your external device. Then move all your data back on the newly formatted device.

Win98 hds in win xp dont show other program says not formatted

you will need to revert back to the master/slave setting.  As slave/slave neither disk will be the main controller. Try reverse the master disk to the slave, and the slave to master, as it may be that the controller has a fault which is why you were having the original win98 problem.  Let me know how you get on

It appears it is not being recognized and mounted. Try running the add new hardware wizard if it isn't in your device manager already.

Will not read or format.

Is windows able to read other usb flash drives? If so, i'd exchange the drive at the pointy of sale.
