Behind the plastic power button is a tiny metal switch. If just the button is broken, use a tiny plastic tool to push the switch. But if the switch is also broken, I recommend returning the tablet for a refund or replacement if it is still covered by the factory warranty.
Fixing a broken power switch is delicate work and may cost more than the value of the tablet.
I know this is a long shot, but if the button is stuck it usually is broken. IPhones of all generation are notorious for this, usually if you just plug it in the screen should light up. You than should be able to open and access your files. I would turn off the automatic lock in the tablet settings.
What type of tablet? In order to turn on the tablet, the circuit board needs to see that connection that is made when the button is pushed. You have to make that connection. I'd suggest ordering a new button.
