Sign on to what? Your computer? If you ever could "sign in" and not now, possibly your user profile became corrupted. It is not too hard to create a new user profile. My instincts are that this is not the problem, however.
Are you trying to log in to your account or some other person's account. The last user of the computer typically has their log in screen retained. Check USER ACCOUNTS on the computer via the control panel. Can anyone else log in? Has an administrator assigned a password to you computer account?
If you can not sign on because you set up a password and can not recall it, you likely would have to use a password recovery disc.
A remarkable number of times, if there is a user name and password, the user fails to log on because they either type their password in as their user name or the are using capitals and the password was lower case. And, of course, to sign in, you use your user name and your password. If this is a home system, you may not even have a password on the system and the problem may be something else.
It would be helpful to know the computer manufacturer and model number and operating system when addressing these questions.
