Question about Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
We were watching the TV for several hours, then it turned off. A minute or two later it turns itself back on. Another two minutes goes by and it turns off again. This keeps repeating until we turn off the television with our remote. We replaced the lamp about a year ago.
This sounds like a SMPS overcurrent problem, or it may be a problem with the processor that controls the front panel controls. I would tend to lean towards to overcurrent possibility.
If you have a background in electronics I would suggest that you get the schematic for the set and take measurements of the SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) circuit and determine if the overcurrent optoisolator is being activated. the signs would be that the diode foreward bias voltage would be .7volts across the diode and the phototransistor will be in an on condition. If you do have an overcurrent problem this is a sign that a component is over driving either due to a short of someother event. The important thing is to use the schematic and a multimeter to track the problem down. Now if you do not have electronics experience, I would advise taking the set to the shop for repair.
I hope this helps,
