Most that i have worked on you disconnect battery for say 15 min. then hook it back up.

You can find a code list in either chilton or haynes manuals. You can get them at most larger parts stores. While there, have your charging system and battery tested (most do that free). If necessary you can also have your codes scanned (also most times free).
If you do that it's likely you will have a good idea what needs to be fixed!
