Question about ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

1 Answer

Freezes at random

I just built my first computer with a P5N32-E SLI Asus MB. I have a Core 2 Duo Processor E6850, 3GHz. I have an Asus EN8600GT video card. I currently have 2GB RAM (however have 4GB, but cannot get it to run without freezing immediately) I am currently running Windows Vista.

It will run for about 2 hours before it will freeze at times, but other times it may only be a few minutes. I am a beginner trying to get this machine to work. Please help.

Note that it freezes with the 2GB installed currently.

  • Finius42 Nov 13, 2007

I will try it and let you know. Thanks.

  • Finius42 Nov 13, 2007

I upgraded to the latest bios version. It is still freezing up. I have also installed the latest driver for my video card.

    Any other suggestions?

Have been adjusting the voltage for the memory. This is what I have found in forums. I have the Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G. It states on their website that it runs at 1.8v +/- .1v. The bios was showing 2.12-2.14v, which was running on the auto setting (default). I have changed it to 1.85v (cannot choose 1.8v). Not sure yet if this will fix it. Will let you know if it freezes.

I have now been running the computer for about a week and a half with no trouble. I have also added the other 2gb (now using 4gb) with no trouble the last 2 or 3 days.

    Thanks for the help!

Random freezing of the motherboard. 1 or 2 gig of memory, low end and high end nVidia cards. Replaced thermal compound on processor to fan. Reset the cmos. Even though the boot order starts with the DVD/CD drive, only starts with hard disk. No floppy so bios difficult to upgrade.

Have you tried playing with the BIOS settings?

Sometimes tinkering with them will fix problems?

    Try starting with defaults.

P5N32? that is a blast from the past. Your pins are located next to the bios of the motherboard and are labeled. You need to make sure the VGA settings are correct (bios recovery should take care of that on mobo I don't think there are pin/jumper settings) on board and monitor.

You should get a quad core processor, with a minimum of 3 to 4 gigs of ram, and an asus SLI or crossfire Motherboard. This and a nice 1 terrabite drive can be done for under $500.00, unfoutunatelly, thats just the way they make it. I PLAY cod4, and I run a dual core with 2 gigs of ram and a $300.00 asus MB, with twin 7900 video cards in sli. and it just about runs it, the new games are processor and ram intense, let alone video cards. I would suggest a single card if cost is a factor, you can always add a second or even a third card later. But the you don't want to be the slowest guy playing, especially if you like first person multiplayer shooters

Insight/Decision help on new motherboard purchase.

talk about what you want with a computer repair shop
logically if the mobo is out of date , then you should be looking at the latest mobo and duel or quad core cpu
next all the os ,files and folders are on the hard drive and that can be installed in any new pc and will start and run
you have to consider this , the amount of ram has a bearing on the speed or the pc as it is used by the pc as a storage space as it moves data around as it performs the various operations
new mobo have 2 ram slots for 4gig ram sticks but you say that you only have 1gig of ram--compare 1 against 8 and see how much easier the pc will run
AS is said , talk with pc professionals ( not retailers ) and get the best advice before you flash the cash

Computer does not boot up

Remove the second card. There is a few other things that must be done before you can select SLI & run.
Go to page 4-26 of your manual. You must set primary display adapter to PCI-E within the bios
Page 4.24 section: 4.4.4 set to AUTO. Section 4.4.5 set to High Preformance. Make sure your connecting your PCIE card in the 2 blue x16 slots & not the white x8 PCIE slot, found on page 2-20.
Happy computing & please vote.

New Installation P5N32-E SLI

There is also a 4 pin power connector cable for the processor to connect onto the motherboard. Make sure that is plugged in. IF that still doesn't help, disconnect hard drive, video card, cd rom drive and floppy drive and any other pci cards in the system. Try booting it again at least to the bios. See if that helps.
