Problem with Motorola RAZR V3

blank screen

my razr screen is blank. on the outside & inside.
i can turn it on, make calls, recieve calls, everything.
but i cannot see. i read that i should hold * and #,
but this does nothing. i also read that if that doesn't
work then it must be the flex cables.

if that is the problem, can this be fixed? and how?

    • I have a black screen (both screens) I purchased a new battery and it worked for several days but today it went out again. How do I repair the problem.

    • By avatarwhite_wolves Jan 17, 2009
    • ok today i grabbed my razr v3i to look at the time. i opened it and the screen was black. so i closed it back up. i looked at the other small screen and it was also black but i could see the time. I once before had a white screen and i took my battery and sim card out and then i later put it back in and everything was fine again. so i tried that thinking the same as before but this time i couldnt even see the time on the small screen. PLEASE HELP

    • i have the same problem. i was fiddling with the back, not taking out the battery and all of a sudden its white. i've had the same thing happen twice, but after a while it came back for no reason. when i was at camp it went white, got a little clear then went completely black when i put it on the charger.

    • Nopes doesn't work.
I bought the exclusive Vodafone RAZR V3 pink in November 2006 but it didn't have it's first charge/use until January 2007, in May 2008 inner screen went white randomly, after no previous problems other than crashing for a few seconds after a signal drop, but that didn't really bother me. I read the booklet that came with the phone and it said warranty lasted 2 years so I emailed Motorola asking where I had to send it, they disagreed and said warranty was only 1 year and I'd have to pay for a repair.
      (Fat Chance)
So I borrowed a friend's old V3i (bought March 2007) the reason for her new phone was mainly shallow, although she said it began to reject her battery and memory card, but other than once the day I recieved it I had no problems. Until 30th December 2008 when I had the same blank screen problem. Not really going to bother contacting Motorola again, I'll just see what the consultants in the C.Phone Warehouse think.
I'm prepared to buy a new phone, except all the data (photos, phonebook entries etc) were saved on the phone not memory card or SIM, do you think they will be able to transfer data to the new phone, or at least copy phonebook entries to SIM?

    • Had this problem, not even kidding you should take the phone turn it on it's side and bang it a couple times on a desk on each side. My phone screen came back on.

    • my phone screen is blank. sometimes it works, sometimes not. i can still make and recieve calls but cant read anything on the screen.

    • By avatarwpsmith88 Nov 17, 2007
    • Blank screen inside and out. Can receive calls, and can make calls. Taking the battery in and out to reset it doesn't fix the problem.

    • My screen goes blank. It's an intermittent problem but is more than 85% of the time. I close the lid, wait for the screen to go out, then open it slowly. Sometimes I can get my view back. It seems to work best if plugged into the car. It's acting like it's voltage sensitive. Too over charged or too undercharged condition of the battery seems to make the problem more apparent. I got a new battery and thought that would fix it. One time, I switched with a friend who had a Razr. I took his battery, and he took mine. "Invalid Battery" came up in the display on his phone. And his battery worked in my phone. Now that I ordered a new battery, I'm back to the same problem with the "white out" screen" What gives?

    • By avatarGuest Nov 16, 2007
    • Exactly the same. Both screens randomly go blank. Sometimes I can dial, sometimes I can't.

    • Same problem, blank screen, no button funtionality, I can receive calls only when phone boots up entirely, but most times it won't even get through the bootup before it goes blank.

    • Same problem here, started today 11/12/07. Please help!!!!!!

    • The battery is charged, but the screen is blank. After taking the battery out and in a couple of times and putting it on the charger the screen eventually comes back on. Plus, there is an odd icon that shows up when the phone is closed only. The icon is on a blue background and looks like a zig-zag B. It is very small and hard to see on the closed screen. It eventually goes away. It only show up when I have the screen problem.

Seriously, bang the phone sideways on a desk, it works! Do it on each side 2 or 3 times, then back again. Don't slam it down, but bang it a couple times I'm not kidding at all

wow.  I was reading all this banging stuff thinking it was crazy.  After banging the phone on the floor a few times, then taking the battery out and putting in back in - - - the darned screen came back on!  And I used to wonder why Grandpa slammed the old TV with a shoe every time it went on the fritz.  That worked, too.  Thanks!

I thought everyone was crazy about banging their phone. My phone worked but screen was pitch black. (Bought phone in May 2007 so I don't think it should die yet and I've dropped it a couple of times since then). Today was the 1st day the phone turned itself off (it was fully charged) and went black.

I put phone in charger, turned it off and on, and, while on, I banged it a couple of times on the desk (a soft bang). Now, the screen is working! This is nuts but phone is working now so I don't have to buy a new one.

I drop it about 2 ft on a hard surface. (a controlled drop) It works again initially. I don't want to shatter the screen. The display comes back and I can see to touch tone the #s, text, and make calls. It really seems to be a problem with the ribbon connection between the phone and the screen lid, I've been told. But for me, the phone seems to work a higher % of the time when it is in between a 80% charge and a 25% charge. Funny it is so intermittent. I'm trying to coast to the end of this contract so I can get a new one! Thanks for your suggestions about rapping it. That really does work! Hasn't Motorola done anything about this??? Bill

I dropped the phone really hard on the ground and screen was blank for days. The phone still worked just without the screen. I read all the post and decided to try the tapping on the side. I did it a few times on each side. The screen went white for a few seconds, then came on. This just saved me a $100 awesome.

THIS its JUst amazing hahahaha it worked...my girl friend phone a v3 pink was ruined well the screen cuz last night fell into the ground so hard and there was water on it...so i was looking online for help i found this and she didnt want to do it ...but i made her hhaha and it amazingly worked hahahah ...and its perfect now ....bang it works

I thought banging it a few times was a ridiculous idea... But it totally worked! Turn your RAZR off, tap it 3-4 times on a hard surface (each side) and it should work when you turn it back on! Hilarious!

WOW banged the phone and it worked. Who would have known!

  • By Author imageGuest Mar 03, 2008

Yes!
I had only the top third of my razr's screen showing. The bottom section was illuminated, but white with light gray vertical streaks. After reading posted solutions, I tapped the closed razr (which was turned on) hard two times on both sides. I then turned the phone o off, then on, and now the entire screen shows! It really worked! Hopefully it's a lasting solution. Thanks for good advice.

u are all rong u have to throw ure phone 10 ft above head for real then is works

  • By Author imageGuest Jan 14, 2008

Thanks for the suggestion! I did tried turning the phone sideways and banging it. And the screen came back on! Thank you!

There might be dust or dirt in the phone which has clogged up the contacts between the screen and the keyboard. Dropping the phone a short distance does seem to help, and it must have knocked the dust loose from the contacts. I tried this and the white screen does not come up as often, but I probably will have to take the phone apart and get the dust out of it.

my friend had the same problem she removed the battery put it back in and it worked fine

The 2 solutions given so far seem unlikely, but hitting my Razr worked for me. I turned it off and on, took the batteries out again and again, and even made phone calls all with the black screen. I finally was frustrated enough to literally punch the face screen while it was closed. Not enough to break it, but enough to show I meant business. Anyway, it works fine now.

Didn't work for me either. Calling Motorola wasn't much help either. They said I had to send it in and it would probably cost about $75. Because of the rebate I got, that's more than I paid for the phone! Any other ideas?

U guys r great! I tried banging it 3 times on both sides (not the screen side) but I guess it wasn't hard enough so I did it again, turned the phone off and when it came on it was working again!!! This really works!!! Thank You SOOOOO Much!!!!!!

  • By Author imageGuest Aug 09, 2008

I thought you guys were nuts about banging it.

I tapped it ******* the hand a few times. Nothing. Did it again, both sides, IT WORKED.

A small amount of water caused the problem.

It's fine now.
