Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

Broken Inspiron screen!

I have a Dell "Inspiron 6000" laptop that I've owned for about a year and a half. Shortly after my warrenty expired, I noticed that the screen of the laptop was coming apart. The more I closed it, the worse the break got. The gap gets bigger when I decrease the angle of the screen. It looks like the silver around the screen is coming loose but only in the lower left hand corner. It sort of peels back from the screen. I'm wondering if there is a loose screw or something? All of the IT guys I've talked to have said I'm pretty much out of luck. Is there a way to fix it? Or a place that could fix it for me without having to replace the entire laptop? I use it for school so It would have to be a fast fix.

Re: Broken Inspiron screen!

you dont need to replace the entire laptop. what you need is the hinge assembly and an LCD kit. you can purchase that through dell's spare parts dept at 800-3573355. its probably gonna cost you $300. or just call tech support and have the computer sent in out of warranties repair. here's a tip. if the issue happened while the warranty was still active then dell is liable to cover that. just tell them that you just didnt have time to call.

hope this helps.

Battery won?t charge and AC adaptor not recognized

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that just turned two years old.

After one year, my dell 6-cell battery started to falter, so Ipurchased a new 9-cell battery. This worked fine until a couple ofmonths ago when I noticed that my 65W adaptor was frayed. I bought anew 65W Dell Inspiron 6000 ac adapter andit worked well for about a week until I noticed that my battery wasn’tcharging at times. If I was patient, or unplugged the adapter andplugged it back in, the battery began charging and all was saved.
This lasted only a short time until my Dell Inspiron 6000 batterywouldn’t charge at all for long periods of time, and sometimes thecomputer wouldn’t turn on, even if plugged into the wall. I thought itmight still be the adaptor, so I borrowed a fully functioning 90W Delladapter from a family member to test the system. This worked better, but still not great.

When I removed the battery and started only fromAC power, the functionality was also intermittent. Usually, if thecomputer actually started, I received the start-up error “The Inspiron 6000 AC AdapterType could not be determined, etc. etc. etc.” After pressing F1, thecomputer booted, but if the battery wasn’t in, the computer didn’tusually last long before shutting off. Unsure if maybe the battery wasthe problem, I put the 6-cell Inspiron 6000 batteryback in, and it too wouldn’t charge, although (together with the 90Wadapter) my computer would at least start more consistently if pluggedin. The error remained however, and sometimes the system stopsrecognizing power and switches to my ever dwindling battery power untilthe adapter is recognized again.
The problem is with the jack on the motherboard inside our Inspiron 6000’s. This is the jack you plug your power plug into on the back of the laptop.

Somehow the jack gets worn and does not make correct contact withthe laptop so the Laptop does not see the power supply as a legit Dellbrand. So the powersupply will not charge the laptop battery and run the laptop at the same time.

DC power jack repair guide. Do-it-yourself instructions.

Modern laptops are all sold with built-in wireless laptop ac adapter. Some power notebooks used by corporate road warriors will have powerfulcellular adapters that connect the laptop to the Internet via the cellphone infrastructure

A bad connection between DC-IN power jack on the system board and the system board is a very common problem with dell pa 12,dell e1505 and Dell Inspiron 6000notebooks. If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix theproblem by resoldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it’s stillunder warranty, it would be fixed at no charge to you. Problem symptoms:
  • Laptop randomly shuts down without any warning.
  • Power LED and battery charge LED start flickering when you wigglethe power cord or the AC adapter tip on the back or your laptop.
  • The battery will not get charged.
  • When you plug ac adapter for laptop, the laptop appears to be dead and there is no LED * activity at all (DC-IN jack on the system board is broken).
To fix the problem, you have to take your laptop apart, remove the system board to resoleder or replace the DC-IN jack. dell pa 12 and Dell Inspiron 6000 disassembly guides will help you to remove the system board. Take a closer look at the power jack on the system laptop board witha magnifying glass. In most cases you get the power problem because ofa bad connection between the DC jack and the system board, you’ll see acrack between the DC jack connector and the system board.

Dell inspiron 6000 screen splitting

This is a generic problem in most of Dell Laptops ( mostly inspiron ). It is caused due to a fatal fault or breakage in the Hinge Assembly. You need a new Hinge Assembly. Is it splitting more on decreasing the angle of the monitor. If yes, Hinge assembly is the only culprit. If you are under Warrenty then Dell will be liable for it and replace it free. If not under Warrenty, I approx. costs 300$. Thank you Sir, Have a nice day.

My audio is glitchy/twitchy every half second. i thought it was everything audio related, then i noticed when i was watching videos, the screen glitches or twitches too! how do i fix this?

go to and input your service tag under support and drivers. Update your video driver. You may as well check for updated drivers or driver fixes as well for your model. The service tag is located on the bottom of your computer.

My Inspiron 6000 screen is blank. I can get an image on a monitor through the serial port, but when on its own, the notebook screen is black. I have noticed that there is a brief flash when booting up, but...

Hi ,

1. You can check the display on external monitor>If the display is blank on external monitor also, its pretty clear that there is an issue with system board

2. If the Exernal monitor comes up fine, it will be an issue with the display of the laptop, you can cross check the issue by booting the computer to BIOS, IF you get same response on BIOS as well. Its an issue with the Display itself you can replace the display panel.

Hopefully, its covered under warranty ;)

Help need to connect tv to laptop w/broken screen

Does it have a TV output only or does it have a VGA out? The ideal would be having another 6000 while changing settings, because you just would have to replicate keystrokes after booting the system (forget about using the mouse - you have to go old-school on it). . Also, there might be some BIOS settings you will have to change.

Problems with Dell Inspiron 6000 Battery ? DELL Inspiron 6000 laptop battery is popular, why ?

You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
