To unlock the controls: Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal button until the Control Lock light goes Off. To lock the controls: Press and hold the End Of Cycle Signal button until the Control Lock light comes On.
Look for the End of Cycle button on the control panel then press and hold it for 3 seconds or until the
Control Locked indicator turns off. There's actually a marking under the button saying "Hold for 3 Seconds to Lock/Unlock Control". Unplug the machine for
at least 30 minutes to forcibly reset the control and to eliminate the
possibility of an electronic glitch if pressing and holding the End of
Cycle
button does not work. Replace the control if unplugging and the pressing
the End of
Cycle button fails to unlock it.
The Control Lock is a designed safety feature that enables the us
to lock the control panel to prevent small children from manipulating
the controls and accidentally starting the appliance.
The
controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding
the following button on the front panel:

no thiis is normal operation, it is considered a child safety feature. in case a sleeping child should happen to be in machine, the short 2 sec blast of cold water will wake them and give them a chance to exit before the machine starts washing.. all whirlpool frontloaders do this, thats how it waas explained to us at factory training.
