Western Digital Wd Elements Se 1tb Portable Black Wdbabv0010 USB 20 Hard Drive Logo

Hi! My WD Elements hard drive is not being recognised by my computer (macbook air). Ive had some problems with it disconnecting w/out being moved and now, (light flashing), its not recognised at all.

So far I've tried making sure the usb port isn't dusty, the other usb port (same result - nada). Also the cord connecting it drive to the usb port seems to be really sensitive (like old headphones) in the sense that if I press them the light will appear (flashing and useless) but if moved slightly will disappear entirely.

Try a new USB cable. From what you are describing it sounds like you may have a short in the USB cable itself

Computer not recognising hard drive. I have even looked in disk management and it's not recognised there either. The hard drive is lighting up when connected so it is working.

HI sineadkirk1

There are several reasons why your hard disk can not be recognised by the computer

1> usb cable problem
2> usb port problem
3> the problem on a computer virus or hard disk
4> computer problem
5> hard disk problem

do the test one by one to ensure that the root cause

My drive is not recognised on my windows laptop

Connect it to a different computer. If it still is not detected, then there is a hardware problem. Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program; buy a new W.D. drive from the W.D. web-site, at a good discount.

My Mac will not store data on my wd external hard-drive

Take it back to where you bought it, and get a replacement,
or at least get them to demonstrate that it _does_ work, when connected to a Mac computer (not a Windows computer).

WD Elements USB drive not recognized

Try going to Disk Management and see if they show up there.

  1. Click Start
  2. Right Click My Computer
  3. Click Manage
  4. Click Disk Management
If your computer is recognizing a mass storage device they should show up in disk management and you can just assign them a drive letter.

Western digital 320g elements portable won't work

Hey,
try connecting it o another computer and check
if not yet, use only the WD USB transfer wire supplied in the box.
because WD External HDD only recongize its own USB and none other.
