There are six different chains with different pitches that can be used on this saw. 1/4, 3/8 PMN, and 3/8 P use a 5/32" file; 0.325 uses a 3/16" file; 3/8 uses a 13/64" file; and 0.404 chain uses a 7/32 file. The pitch is ususally stamped on the side of the chain teeth.
This sounds like you may have the chain brake stuck on. The hand guard is also a chain brake. release the chain brake by pulling backwards on the handle. If this does not fix the issue remove the clutch by pulling the c-clip and retaining washer. I would look at the bar and chain and make sure they are not bent or damaged. ask a local dealer like www.arcolawn.com for parts or tools you may need.

take the bar cover off, remove the bar and chain. there will be a lock key that u can easily remove with a flat head screwdriver, after u get it off all pices should slide out easily, just rember how to put it back and make sure not to mess up the oiler needle

Check the IPL for your saw to see if any special tools are needed. Poulan (Craftsman, Jonsered, Husky) clutch removal tool part number 530031112 if needed, is under $5 from many sources (look at the visible area between the weights if 2 small round sockets are visible you need the tool).
There are metal piston stops available, when square (almost never) with the piston top these work well, if not square they have been known to punch through the piston. I suggest a length of nylon rope (nothing left behind) be used instead of the piston stop (retain 6" ± so you can remove it). Make sure the piston is near the top of the cylinder before feeding the cord or it can fall through the exhaust port and damage the piston as it rises.
Everyone I have ever removed had a left handed thread (tighten it to loosen it).
sounds abit like it ,but remove the spark plug and you should be able to rock the flywheel back and forth. sounds a bit like no oil in the gas or at least insuficient oil and may have grabbed, (i assume you have the chain and bar off the powerhead,if not then remove them ,and then try ) it could also be the centrifgal clutch jammed up.
