Defrosting is best carried out in the fridge or in a plastic bag in a bowl of cool water but it can take quite a long time, up to 24 hours.
The trouble with defrosting with a microwave is the process warms the meat in patches though resting time halfway through allows the temperature to equalise; this means the cooking process will have already begun in the hot spots caused by microwave defrosting.
try defrost = 2.3 enter/start I use my sharp (not a R405) all the time to defrost meat and that's how mine works , I know its a bit confusing as defrost goes by weight not time like the cook mode does
If you're feeling brave-and if your oven is cavernous enough-it's also possible to defrost your turkey in the microwave. You need to zap the bird on a low-to-medium energy setting for at least 6 minutes per pound (two hours for a 20-pound bird), being sure to rotate it occasionally from top to bottom and end to end. Because it's possible that the microwave will start cooking certain portions of the turkey, it's necessary to start cooking the bird in a traditional oven immediately after defrosting.
were both items the same density? Was one maybe thawed more that the other? A microwave cooks by rapidly heating the water molecules within the product that you are heating. If you heat two of the same product, it should cook them both evenly, however say you put in a frozen hamburger and a thawed hamburger, the frozen one will only begin to defrost while the thawed one will actually cook
the microwave does not weigh things. you need to know the weight for things like auto defrost. 1 pound ground beef... enter auto defrost ..10 will read 1.0 ... 1 1/2 pounds... enter 15 ..reads 1.5.... 1/2 pound enter 5...reads 0.5 . unit beeps half way through heating program.. open door.. turn meat over close door. will continue to defrost
