Check the drainage of the machine.nothing like stagnant water sitting in the hoses and bottom of machine to cause smells.first check the penny / button trap for coins or debris as this will cause unsatisfactory emptying .do a rinse cycle with no cloths in machine.Get some calgon or anything that removes washing machine or dishwasher lime scale.then do a full wash without clothes on 60 degrees or above with small amount of bleach and lime scale remover.make sure the room is well ventilated.never overfill machine with dirty laundry when washing as this prevents the rinse cycles from removing bad water completely.try leaving the door slightly open between washes but only if you have no pets or children to prevent build up of damp spores.

SOURCE: Clothes Smell Musty and Damp

It sounds like a build up of washing residue. Clean inside the door seal and do a very hot wash with a bit of washing powder and no clothes. Repeat this once a week until smell has gone.

SOURCE: smell coming from insie washing machine

This is usually caused by mostly using low temperature washes. The detergent manufacurers don't tell you, but low temperatures don't kill the bacteria present on most clothes, so they breed and and multiply in nice warm moist washing mashines. The cure is to do a "maintenance wash" every so often, which is the hottest wash the machine can do, and this will kill the bacteria. Also adding washing soda to this wash will help to freshen it up.

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!!!

There is a strong horrible smell when the machine is filling at the beginning of a wash cycle

Hello,
The water enters the machine through a electric solenoid operated valve. If it smells bad only when it is filling, and not afterward, I'd start there.
To figure out if which one it is, start filling with cold water only. If no smell, then use hot water only. Whichever water temp causes the smell, then that could be the solenoid valve ( or the circuit controlling the valve) causing the smell.

Why is there a damp smell when I open the door?

Front load washing machines have to be hermetically sealed so they don't leak. Of course opposite of their top-loader cousins. :) In your case, Try cleaning the drum and the door seal and also remove any and all soap residue that you can find. Then try running an empty load with vinegar and/or Borax. You can try bleach, too if that doesn't work. When it's all clean and smells 'normal' again, be sure and keep the door cracked open when you're done using it from now on. Being closed and sealed all the time is why mold and mildew have grown, causing it to smell bad. I hope this helps! :) -Jason

You probally have a front load washing machine. There is probally mildew in the wash tub & discharge hoses. Try washing an empty load with a hot water and a cup of vineagar and see if that helps with the odor. If it does, then repeat this once a month.

When washing iwe get a horrible smell like bad

Is this a newly installed machine?

That smell would normally be associated with drains, indicating that the outlet from the machine to the drain is not correctly fitted with a trap.

Washing is damp smelling also machine i take washing out as soon as machine stops

This is generally caused by bacteriological action due nowadays to low temperature washing . try a regime of anti-bac washes WITH NO CLOTHES IN THE MACHINE , small dose bio powder and the hottest 90 degree / boil wash every six to eight weeks.
