sounds like print head is not engaging home switch or sensor. open the printer and look for any such switch to sense print head at home position.

Hi, here are two possible solution, kindly follow me and resolve your problem.
You mean that you load paper into the printer tray, but it doesn't
pull it into the print, though it's acting like it should, and you get an
error on the printer, then most likely your paper pickup/feed from rollers, it may possible that the problem is dusting or worn out. You can try to clean them with a cloth and water or alcohol, otherwise they may need to be replaced.
If your printer just doesn't see that it has paper and gives you a paper
out error, then you may have a sensor problem in the printer, or the
printer is expecting a different paper size or paper from a different input than what is loaded (depends on the printer), then you may have a programming issue.
I assure you that your problem will resolve easily.
Good Luck

You see the "Paper Width Error" on the 2280+ because the print job being recived by the pritner is wider than the physical paper which will cause the pritner to print on the platten, in order to rectify the problem.
Start with the printer Powered OFF
Hold Down the ONLINE button and power the printer ON keep ONLINE held down until you see ASCII80 ASCII136 on the top line of the display
Press the button under NEXT repeatedly until you see APW on the top line of the display
Press the button under APW
Set APW = OFF
This will disable the APW sensor and you will not see the Paper Width Error
