I check for tangled thread and found none. The wheel turns really hard.
Start by trying to turn the wheel with the bobbin and the auto-thread cassette removed. Look inside to see if there is any thread caught anywhere both in the bobbin area and also in the complicated mechanism where the auto-thread cassette fits.
Now, if there is no improvement and you cannot see any threads caught, you need to see if there is anything wrapped round the bevel gear drive under the bobbin carrier rotating mechanism.
If you go to "How to fix Brother's CS-8060 bobbin auto winder to work?" thread on this forum there is a description of how to separate the 2 halves of the case. (I apologize for omitting to say about Large +Screw #6, located in the top of the case where the Auto-Thread cassette fits)
Hopefully you may find what is causing the stiffness. It is not really likely that one of the shaft bearings is tight but you can put a little oil each side of the bearing and continue to turn the wheel to see if this frees-up any.
Take care to wipe any excess oil off, particularly where it might get on anything you sew.
Don't get oil on the drive belt and don't blow any fluff up into the motor area or, especially, the speed-sensor disk (which is a black thing with fine slots.
Assemble the components carefully. You might take a few cell-phone pictures to help remember how things go.
I'm sorry, Sandra, but it looks like you will have to take the machine in to a workshop. My latest guess would be that the motor might have seized-up. You could check on this by removing the drive belt and seeing if the machine will turn without it being connected to the drive.
If the machine still refuses to turn and you have carefully checked EVERYWHERE for thread tanglesI would suspect one of the shaft bearings has gone tight/seized. Unless there is something jamming somewhere in the mechanism this could be the answer. Penetrating oil might free it up. Add a few drops and try to turn the wheel back and fro a tad. Apart from that I'm stumped without the machine in front of me! Sorry I could not solve your issue. Please post on here when you find the cause for the benefit of others. Thanks.

In my experience, difficulty in turning the hand wheel generally comes back to dryness in a couple of locations. The first is the needle bar and the second is the bearing nearest the hand wheel. If you are going to open the covers of the machine yourself, a couple of drops of light machine oil on each of these places may make a world of difference.
Testimonial: "I took it to get serviced and was told that it was a cracked drum under the bobbin case. He wouldn't touch it for under $100.00, so I am saving the machine for parts for my other cs80. This machine was brand new, but I bought it from ebay. I have only had it for a few months."

Thank you for the instructions to take my machine apart, check everything and oil it. I took it apart and oiled everywhere I could, but my hand wheel will not turn. I did not find any thread anywhere. Any more suggestions, before I take it to the shop?
