My mouse is pretty jumpy when it moves on the screen making it difficult to set the pointer where I need it. Is there a fix for this?

run it in battery to see if fixes cursor problem
also try a different mouse see if that makes the cursor move correctly
this way you see if its the mouse or power supply
might also a touch pad problem anything that controls the cursor

If you are not using a mouse pad, try that. Using the mouse on reflective or glass surfaces. Try another mouse to see if it has the same issues. Check your mouse settings in control panel to make sure everything seems ok. Update mouse drivers. Finally, you can try to uninstall / reinstall the mouse.

Step 1

• To make the pointer easier to find when you move it, select the Display pointer trails check box, and then move the slider towards Short or Long to decrease or increase the length of the pointer trail.
• To ensure that the pointer doesn't block your view of the text you're typing, select the Hide pointer while typing check box.
• To find a misplaced pointer by pressing the CTRL key, select the Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key check box.

Step 2

If you are using touchpad, try reducing the Touchpad sensitivity and check

1. Click on the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Select "Control Panel." Next select "Mouse" under "Hardware and Sound." You can also left-click the touchpad while the cursor is anywhere on the desktop. From that screen, choose "Mouse Pointers."
2. Select the "Buttons" tab at the top of the dialog box that opens. This shows the type of touchpad device installed on your laptop.
3. Set the touchpad for right or left-handed use from this dialog box. You can adjust the double click speed of your computer as well. When you finish making any changes, click "Apply."
4. Pick the "Device Settings" tab from the dialog box now. You can see the touchpad for your Vista machine highlighted on this screen. Select "Settings."
5. Read the information provided in the next dialog box. It gives you options for tapping your touchpad, using the buttons, scrolling, pointer motion and sensitivity.
6. Make any changes you want from the various topics. When you make a change, click "Apply." Click "OK" when you finish making all your changes.

also under pointer options you can speed up the mouse you must click apply after you have made any adjustments

what you need to do is uninstall the mouse wait a few minutes then reinstall it so you can be sure that it is properly installed

To solve this problem please try followin:

1. If you have a a rollball mouse, try cleaning it. Sometimes it will prevent mouse curser to move freely.

2. Check following setting:

Start/Setting/Control pannel click Mouse option.
Select Pointer Options
Make sure "Enhance Pointer Percision" is checked and make sure you have pointer speed selected as you like.

The problem is in the trackpoint itself, it is defective. The fix is to either disable the function of the trackpoint through software or by physically disconnecting it.

Disabling through software can be done usually through the BIOS or in the Control Panel in windows. If there is no way for you to disable it then you have to remove the keyboard and cut the connector that is coming from the trackpoint control board. Make sure that you do not cut the keyboard cable. The trackpoint cable is usually about 4 wires thick and is seperated from the thicker keyboard cable. The only other thing to do is to replace the keyboard.

3-you see the 5 option under it,select the pointer options
4-under the visibility option unmark Display pointer trails &
Hide pointer whilt typing option
and also check the pointer speed option under pointer option.

It may either be that your mouse is due for new batteries (this happened to me and I know what you mean, it is pretty tough to use when it lags around like that), or your mouse settings are messed up. To change your mouse settings go to start > control panel > mouse > pointer options. In pointer options there should be a button you can slide to either increase or decrease the speed at which your mouse moves across the screen.
