Grab some refrigerant gauges and take readings. If the low side has more than 40 psi or so of pressure, the low limit switch will close and allow the compressor to run. If there is indeed low pressure causing the compressor not to run, you will need to flush the system after eliminating the source of the leak. If the a/c compressor has never been changed, it is probably the source of the leak.

I changed my as compressor and now it will not come on

You would have to jumper the low pressure sensor to engage the clutch to be able to put freon back into the system.
You would also have to clear the codes from the computer too. There should be a code saying the system is low on freon and that would block the compressor from having power.

I'm getting an error code that states "Refrigerant Low - AC Off" or something real close to that. The compressor won't come on to take freon without clearing the code. I have had it...

Hi Bill,, don't worry about the codes, any shop that you take it too will know what to check and how to get the codes if they need them,, Most already know how to fix your problem, which would be a day to day thing for them,

MY 2001 ELDORADO AC WON'T ACTIVATE AS IT ADVISES THE REFRIGANT IS LOW. I TRIED TO ADD REFRIGERANT BUT THE COMPRESSOR WON'T COME ON TA INHALE IT SO HOW DO I GET THE REFRIGERANT IN? THANKS -JWB-

Hi, the way to get the compressor to come on is to short the connector to the pressure sensor on the return line. The sensor is along the same line you were trying to charge on. Just remove the connector and use a large paper clip to connect the terminals inside the connector. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

After replacing freon ac to new coolent computer will read that the collent is low and shuts down the compressor. How do I correct this or how do I reprogram the car's computer?

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 25 seconds and put it back on,then add more freon, unless you know you have put in enough,if so,remove freon, and remove the orifice tube and replace it.If this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

A/c compressor not working added freon but it

Either the system is still low of freon,or the sensor (one of them)is bad.The sensors are on the high side of the system, liquid line.If you will get on chat,I can help you with this,it will take a while,I will need to know how much freon was added. And what the system is doing,is the ac clutch engaging, etc?Ask for ronicon, when you click on chat with, type my name in,roniecon, with your text, that you are writing .

1996 cadillac deville compressor stopped, new compressor and dryer put on, but unit will not accept freon. Please help.

Sometimes, you have to start the vehicle, turn on the AC (Hi setting), and jump across (bypass) the low side pressure switch - to allow the compressor to start running and draw the freon in through the low side - make sure your fittings are correct and otherwise - Did you pull a vacuum on the system before you attempted to add refrigerant? I would highly recommend it - removes air and moisture....
