Question about Hitachi 46W500 46 in. TV/DVD Combo
DVD on 46W500 TV/DVD got stuck. i would like to replace it can any one help?
Hello there. This is a really "easy" fix, all you have to know how to do is use a phillips screw driver! lol
First unplug the tv to reduce the chance of getting shocked. Remove the speaker cover, it'll pry off from end to end. Next, in front of the dvd player, you'll see several sets of screws; a couple of them will loosen the cover that has the dvd buttons on it and the other ones will loosen the cover for the dvd player. Once you get the button cover off, then you'll be able to get at the last screw that's on the dvd cover. Once that's off, then you'll see the actuall metal sub housing that the player sits in. Take off the four screws and simply pull the whole unit out. Be careful not to pull it too hard our all the way out as you'll have to undo four wiring harnesses from the rear of the player. After that, it comes out.
Now, I looked around and found this company that sells replacement dvd players; new and rebuilt. I called the company and talked with a young lady and ordered a rebuilt unit. There will be a core cost of $1 (meaning you'll have to send back your old unit to get back your $1). The new ones cost $259.45 and rebuilt cost $189.67. The part number is UE22181. The company name is Vance Baldwin Electronics (www.vancebaldwin.com) (954) 723-9191 or (800) 432-8542.
I challenge all who want to do this to NOT waste your money on getting someone to do this for you if you have to pay a lot. I'm really mechanically inclined (I rebuild cars/engines as a hobby) and this on a scale of 1 to 10 is a .5. ;) Good luck.

Thank you that WAS helpful. Id say maybe after one month of having this exact television...my DVD too got stuck in the player. Not only was I sad because the televison was pretty much still brand new, but it "ate" my DVD with my favorite FRIENDS episodes!!!AND because it was a "Free Gift" with the purchase of a couch set, The Brick would NOT repair or exchange ( they miraculous "forgot" the papers and warranty upon delivery but ASSURED me...if these was an issue with it...there would be no problem having it taken care of. After reading your instructions on how to install a new one, I was stoked...but the price of evens used one...I might as well buy a whole new DVD player and the whole season of friends again. Works out cheaper. But, yes, your post is vaild, informative, and helpful! I will defiantly refer to any other of your posts for tips, solutions, and reviews.
