Re: Slow DVD playback

Playing DVD's requires a bit of constant transfer from the drive to the controller and from the controller to the RAM. First thing I would try is disabling background programs. One very likely culprit is if you have anti-virus software that is running a scan in the background.

Have you tried different DVD's? The problem could be the DVD drive is not reading the DVD properly. Have you tried different players? Different players sometimes work better. I would also suggest making sure that your sound drivers are up to date.

Choppy playback, keeps stopping to load

Your Internet connection is too slow.
So, your media-player is getting "starved", and thus must "wait" for more content to be downloaded.
Upgrade the speed of your Internet connection, or connect to higher-speed web-servers, such as YouTube.

Sound playing thru my laptop is very very slow coming out any idea how 2 fix?

That's a hilarious description of a poorly defined issue. You mean that some media player's not responsive, or that sound seems to be coming out at 800 samples per second (thus, pretty much all subsonics?)

Try replacing or updating your audio driver!  Perhaps someone merely set the playback environment in the native mixer utility to have this kind of distortion....

Computer does not want to play a video. is asking for a DVD decoder.

Certain software that plays media require a DVD decoder that you can purchase. You can also go to, look at the freeware tab and you may be able to find a DVD player program that will play your DVD.

How fast is your Internet connection?

Often, a "slow" connection cannot download fast-enough to support "streaming" from an online source.

Start playing the video, and press "pause", and wait one or two minutes. Then, press "play", and you should get a "smooth" playback.

Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.

I know this probably doesn't qualify as a 'solution', but try using VLC to play your DVDs instead of Media Player. From what I understand, Media Player has a whole host of issues with DVD playback.

VLC is free and can be downloaded from here:

Hope this helps!
