On 2 seperate auction items this week eBay showed me as the highest bidder when the auction ended but I shortly received an email stating I had missed the item by $2.50 above my highest bid.

take it up with e-bay
The auctioning system is a bit "loose' in that the house bids against you just to raise the price, so ask the question , if you were notified as the highest bidder then why were you out bid and are you still responsible for the bid amount payment

How to win on website!!

  • There are many good ways to win on mad bid auctions mainly you would want to let the counter run down and wait till it gets below 5 seconds without anyone bidding then that is possible that people have left the site and no longer bidding on that item if you bid you may grab it.
  • Also bidding on vouchers and house hold equipment is a-lot easier to win as most people aim for the cars or televisions and that high priced items so if you get like two £50 vouchers for £1 each that is a big saving, Take into account that all auctions when you click to view the item auctioned it will display the processing and shipping fee if shipping is required So total may be the end price + around £5 for processing and shipping if required.
  • The bonus being all bids bought if you don't win any single auction the used bids are given back to you, So make sure you only bid on things worth winning not something small you want to test on.
  • It's advise you buy only small bid packages and win bid packages on auctions there on always and always cheaper than buying the bids direct from the website, Save on average is about 79% of RRP!!

I am upset that I was told I had the winning bid right up to the last minute only to be told I lost the bid. I was watching up to the last minute and was to notified I needed to up my bid. This has ha

You didn't mention what auction site you are using, but I will answer as if you are using Ebay. It sounds like you are a victim of a sneaky but completely legal bidding technique called "sniping." Bidders often wait until the last 30 seconds or less of an auction is left before entering a bid, hoping to steal the win (which they often do).

As mentioned, this is legal and used on almost all auction sites. If you only use Ebay you have two main options. First, you can enter a larger final bid amount when you make your first and only bid. For example, let's say you are willing to pay up to $100 for an item but hope to get it for $70. You enter $100 and hope for the best. The advantage of doing this is you avoid overpaying for an item and don't have to watch the auction. The key disadvantage is other bidders make smaller bids and gradually push the total price up to your highest amount. The second option on Ebay is to wait until the very last part of an auction before entering your bid amount. This might get you the win, but you have to wait and watch the auction and sometimes scream when you still don't win, evan after getting up in the middle of the night!

You can also use automatic tools to enter a snipe bid. This is likely what other users who are winning the auctions are using. Some examples are,,,, and There are many more. If you choose one of these other tools, make sure you read all the fine print to clearly understand (a) how much each bid will cost and any other costs, (b) the software will work with your auction site, and (c) what personal information is stored and how it is used (don't use it if you are not comfortable with the privacy details). I would recommend trying one that has a free trial and then bid on a smaller item as a test.

Finally, change how you look at auctions. They can be a lot of fun, as long as you set realistic expectations and have clear, personal bidding rules you follow...

How do I cancel a bid on ebay

There are two ways to cancel bids on eBay. The first is for the seller to cancel a bid made on their auction. The second is for buyers to cancel bids they made on other's auctions. Both come with very specific rules that prohibit any auction misconduct.
Canceling a bid made by someone else.
Review the reasons allowed for canceling a bid. Go to the cancellation page if the bidder is someone whose identity you have not been able to confirm.

You should also access this page if the bidder asks you to cancel the bid, or if the item being auctioned is no longer for sale. Fill out the cancellation form. Give the reason that the bid is being cancelled. Use the cancellation feature sparingly, as the cancellation and your reason for cancelling, will be recorded in the bid history. b> Canceling a bid made on someone else's auction. b> Use the bid retraction form to cancel a bid you have made. Make sure your bid meets the criteria for a retraction. Retract if the bid price you entered was wrong, and then correct the bid amount. Retract your bid if the auction description was changed and you no longer want the item as it is now described. Use the retraction form if you need the reach the seller for some reason and their contact information is invalid. Retract your bid that was made before the final 12 hours of the auction, as the option will not be available after that time. Retract bids made during the last 12 hours, only within an hour of the bid. Use the retraction feature as rarely as possible, as the number of times you have retracted a bid will appear on your feedback numbers. Hope this helps.

I bid for an item on ebay it confirmed i was the high bidder till bidding ended but i didnt win the item i was bidding for why

somebody sniped your bid at the last second most likely unless Ebay took it off the last second. Check your "not won" box on the left of your summary column to check on all bids placed by clicking on the total bids showing that were made

Hello, I'm an user of BayGenie Pro edition and I've won lots of auctions with it. But, last night I was bidding one item and I didn't win because the BayGenie asked to "Review and Confirm...

Are you in a "minority ebay area" ... I have found baygenie pretty useless the past few months - like you I have had it miss austions, display really screwy data in some columns, display austion times as "indefinite" etc. I use the Australian eBay site so maybe it's just bad with minority, low-population country specific ebay sites; probably works fine against US and European sites but tiny sites like Australia the developers can't be bothered with doing tweaks.

The only way not to win the item is to hope someone out bides you. Or you can contact the seller and ask them to remove your bid. That is the only way out of the item/bid.

Good Luck

Shill bidding suspention

With regard to shill bidding suspension you will need to contact eBay's Safe Harbor department. You can phone them using this phone number: 1-800-322-9266

If it will ask you for telephone pin just press # until you get a customer representative on the other line. You will be asked for your registration information for verification purposes.

Then if you are not talking to an agent from Safe Harbor, just ask the agent to transfer you.

Or you can email them at but the response will be after 24-72 hours.

I hope this helps you resolve the restriction in your account. Please don't forget to rate, thanks!

Looking for a tool to help find bargains on eBay?

I've used this tool and I'm very satisfied with the results. For me, who uses eBay very often, it has helped me a lot to monitor my bids and do not miss out on any bid deadlines. I can also quickly see the current bid price for all items. That's really cool!!! I recommend!
