Yes, exactly the same. Out of the blue. One minute working fine, the next....this message. The printer will no longer respond to anything. Help!!!

I had this as well. It is almost certainly the ink pads (for waste ink inside the printer) that have reached their service life. Obtaining replacement pads and disassembling the printer is very difficult and time consuming. But there is an alternative fix which has worked for me. Search google for replacing the waste ink pads on the Epsons

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem has been solved by pressing the 'power', 'stop' and 'maintenance' buttons simultaneously for about ten seconds. It makes a terrible noise for a couple of seconds (like gears grinding) but it resets the printer. Apparently this is a ploy by Epson when genuine Epson inks aren't used, to encourage you to get your printer serviced!! At a cost of course.

This error occurs when your printer thinks the ink absorber in the bottom of your printer is saturated with ink. It can be reset pretty easily with a free utility.

I have written a short article and made a video guide on this very message. they can be found here: http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/clearing-parts-inside-the-printer-have-reached-the-end-of-their-service-life-on-epson-printers/

Hope this helps.

Epson programmed their printer to monitor the waste ink counter andyour printer has reached the maximum value allowed, you have to resetyour printer to clear the waste ink counter.

You may read the information regarding "end of life" and "waste ink counter" here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp

To reset the counter, download re-setter program here, install and follow the instruction in the web site.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

You actually need to change the ink absorber.

Heres a video on how its done on the R800.

Please refer to your manual for proper localization of the ink absorber.

Doing this will get you to move on

Service required error

Ok.. aside from the fact that you've posted under the R300 Epson model thread you're still in luck.

The CX6600 has been documented (by me admittedly) with a complete guide to fitting an external tank and resetting the waste ink counter in the printer.

Just to note: This is a commercial site but the information provided is generic and will help you fix the problem.
