How do you watch tv on This monitor?

I was told that the Monitor could be used as a tv, not just with a DVD or blue ray device but by itself. How do I use this feature?

The hp2509m is just a monitor it doesn't have the ability by itself to watch TV.whoever told you that it had this feature was misinforming you.
However any monitor connected to a computer can display video streamed from a TV station over the internet with the right software. Try a search forfor a TV aggregator on google to find one to fit your needs.

Is there a coaxial input on this tv?

No because it is a monitor only; meaning it does not have a TV tuner of its own.

Can not get the DVD player to record to our new LCD TV. Worked fine with the older CRT model. It will play OK. Do I need an upconcertter to make this work?

What kind of connection (wire) are you using to connect the DVD player to the TV? Is it composite (RCA, yellow), component (3X RCA, blue, red, green), S-video (Mini-DIN, like a computer keyboard or mouse connector), DVI (Like a wider computer monitor connector), HDMI (Wider and thinner but like a USB connector)?

I discovered that the material which came with the product allowed me to download the software using only Windows Vista or Windows XP. My system is Windows 7. Is there anything I can do about this or...

Hello
You just try it with any other computer running on Vista or XP. Connect your device through that system and download the software. Some electronic devices like blue ray player, have internal LAN card fitted with it. If your device is such a type, you can download the software directly connecting it to an external broadband modem. We have got the software like that for a sony Blue Ray dvd. But yours have no video output device fitted inside to monitor the function. So you must connect it to an other computer itself to get the software downloaded. If it can't possible contact the manufacturer for support. Sometimes they may have the software on CD format. If so you can do thing very easy.

I want to connect my Thinkpad T30 laptop to HDTV

Depends on what connections are on your laptop and tv check them both. If you have a HDMI port on both you can use that. If not most recent TV's have a VGA port which you can use using a standard vga cable if not they will have a DVI or S-Video port and you will need one of those cables which are all availble from any computer shop. But check which one you need first

I can't play movies on my tv

Okay, this monitor setup is a little strange. There is an "AVC" component with this monitor that you use to connect everything. There is a 4 cable string (power, s-video, DVI, display port) that connects the AVC unit to the monitor. You must have all external equipment connected to the AVC unit, not to the TV itself. The connections on the TV talk to the AVC unit. I will assume you will be connecting the Blu-ray player via HDMI. HDMI is on input 4 on the back of the AVC unit. hit the input button on the remote or the TV and select input 4. There is a way of customizing the inputs to read out what you have connected to them (ex. DVD, VHS, etc.) to make it easier to use. This should get you signal from your blu-ray

Cant get rid of black baras on top and below while watching DVD's

The TV remote may have a button stating Aspect Ratio, or similar. Usually when you keep hitting it, it may cycle through available settings like 16:9, 4:3, Wide, Zoom, etc. If not, or if the remote doesn't have this button, check the TV's onscreen display but usually the source device like the DVD player is in control of how the image fits the screen so the DVD player's onscreen display or it's remote may also have the Aspect option so check it as well. Todays TV's are alot like PC monitors and they "talk" to the device in control of the signal. Your Samsung may have worked better with the Blu Ray, or maybe it's the other way around but your new LG may not have an automatic adjustment like the Samsung may have had.
