How to focus in on an object

We have been trying to focus in on a tower in our neighborhood that has a light. We try to line up the red dot in the telescope but we often lose it and then we cannot seem to find it again or focus for more than a moment. We just need general operating user friendly directions. Help.

First use the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it. This is your lowest magnification.

Then center the object in the telescope eyepiece, and without moving the telescope CENTER the crosshairs or the red finder dot on the target.
