Question about Dell InspironTM 600m Notebook

Dell inspiron 600m idle battery

I have an aged 600m (4 years old with original battery) which has been really finicky lately - about 10 days ago it decided not to recognise its AC adapter (and subsequently powered down completely) then suddenly found it again 2 days later. I used it on battery power briefly (to half power) after that time. However, the battery has run to zero suddenly and refuses to recharge - the battery status is listed as 'idle' and every time i start up my computer i get a black screen telling me it can't properly identify the AC adapter and asking if i want to go into F2 setup. If i skip set up the computer works, but the battery remains idle. Thoughts?

The D600 line was introduced in 2004. The only accurate way to find the exact age of your laptop, or the PRODUCTION DATE is to contact Dell. Otherwise you would only be able to find out the general date which was the 2004-2005 years. After that they moved on to the D6X0 lines...D630, etc as the processors improved. Some more info on your unit
Latitude D600
The D600 (and simultaneously-introduced D800) was Dell's first business-oriented notebook based on the Pentium-M processor; it used the first-generation "Banias" Pentium M chips running on a 400 MT/s FSB on DDR memory. It had a PATA hard drive and a D-series modular bay, and used an ATI GPU Radeon 9000. It had a 14" screen, in regular (non-widescreen) form factor. Unlike later D6x0 series machines, both memory sockets were accessible from a single cover on the bottom of the system.
Many Latitude models had a near-clone Inspiron, in the case of the D600, it was the Inspiron 600M. Differences include that the 600M does not work with the Dell D-Dock, and the case styling is slightly different. The motherboards, screens and hard drive caddies are all physically interchangeable

I cannot log onto my facebook account with my 6 year old Inspiron 600M, but okay with HP laptop

Your 6 year old most likely has an obsolete system. It may not understand the new codes on some web pages because it would need updated Java and browser version. Java is meant to have automatic updates, but if yours doesn't do that then go to to get this going. The new browser version should be IE8 currently. But if you use Firefox or Chrome or any other application, then see if you can get updates on those. If my ideas help you, please do rate me. Thanks

The Dell Inspiron 600m will not power up when you press the start button. Battery is fully charged. BLY

Try draining the flea power first:

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

If there is still no display, tell me if there is also any lights that flashes on the (numlock, scrolllock, capslock). Hope this helps

Laptop with Fuzzy Screen

It sounds like your video card is overheating.

Try getting one of the laptop coolers from bestbuy or other store. They separate the laptop from the table, allowing more air to flow and cool it. The good ones even have a fan to help it.

Good luck!

Dell 600m Laptop Killing batteries

If you are using known good batteries, and you have the most current BIOS Flash, then it is likely a failure of the charging curcuit on the motherboard. The flashing Amber (Some people see it as red) led indicates a failed battery

The Multiple good batteries, I assume have been recently purchased, because computer batteries are consumable and are rated for 300 to 500 charging cycles before they wear out.

I replaced my 700m motherboard with one from Ebay for about $170.00 about a year ago.
