Why does my ptac unit put out cool air sometimes. It will start out hot when the heat strip is on then turn cooler and takes a long time to warm up room?

Not heat and replaced heat strip, now that works was open. Replaced main switch assembly and no great change.

This is bad bearings and the motor and capacitor have to be replaced.

SOURCE: Cool air when running; warm air when compressor is off.

It sounds as if warm outside air is being drawn back into the room when the unit is not actively cooling. Portable units depend on room air to carry the heat outside, & therefore will not work properly if the room is too airtight. Provide a makeup air passage by leaving the door slightly open, & see if this helps. Use a room thermometer to see if your desired temperature is being reached. Note that if the wind is strong & coming from the wrong direction, it may not be possible to prevent warm air drawback.

SOURCE: heats for 15 - 20 mins then blows cool air

Look for an outdoor thermostat/temp sensor and if you find one chack to see if its adjustable. (adjustments probably found on the board.)

It could also be wired to bypass the heatpump altogether when temps are below 40.

you will want to adjust, rewire or remove that t-stat/sensor.

In some areas they are really not needed. What state are you in?

PTAC Blows Cold Air in Heating Mode when it reaches -3F less than the Set Value on the Thermostat - Model: AZ65H15DABW6

It sounds like your PTAC (packaged terminal air conditioner) unit is malfunctioning. When the thermostat is set to heating mode, the PTAC should be blowing warm air, not cold air. There are a few possible causes for this issue:
  1. The PTAC may be low on refrigerant. If the unit is low on refrigerant, it may not be able to properly heat the air.
  2. The PTAC's reversing valve may be stuck in the cooling position. The reversing valve is responsible for switching the flow of refrigerant between heating and cooling mode. If it is stuck in the cooling position, the PTAC will blow cold air even when the thermostat is set to heating mode.
  3. The PTAC's heating element may be malfunctioning. If the heating element is not functioning properly, the PTAC will not be able to heat the air.
I recommend contacting a trained HVAC technician to diagnose and fix the issue with your PTAC. They will be able to determine the cause of the problem and repair it properly.

Amana Wall unit blows cold air before heating

The cold that you describe may be just unconditioned air? If you are certain you can hear the comp operating for a couple of minutes, and then the heat starts, I would guess it is a reversing valve issue if it's a heat pump and it probably is. Or the control board acting up. I've had a lot of issues with the boards in the Amanda PTAC units. I can't remember how to configure it, but if you Google "Amanda ptac configuration", there is a lot of info online. May try a reset method first. Hope this helps!

In AC mode the cooler fan doesn't turn on and after a little while the warm air starts to blow instead of cold air. Any ideas

Sounds like a bad or stuck reversing valve. Typically r.vs. are energized in cooling, verify 24 volts to valve, if yes , bad valve

GE PTAC 5500 series cooling and then blowing hot

Cooling gas is missing. Call some AC service in near to fill it, ask more of them for price. Do not switch it on until you solve this to prevent higher damage.

Problem with GE PTAC-Model# AZ28E09DABM2 - Why won't condenser kick on when switching to AC from Fan. AC was working fine until today...Fan is still working...Pulled the unit out and could feel the h

Hummm. A bit difficult to solve this problem. Seems like the condenser outside is not working, I mean the fan of the condenser. Looks like you have a wall A/C and a wall A/C always have condensers outside the house and near the A/C. Have you checked if the fan is spinning? I don't think the compressor is at fault but check it anyway. You should be able to hear the compressor running either in the wall unit or in the outside condenser housing. The only heat you should feel is from the condenser itself. If you blows warm air, that means the fan is working, if not that means the fan is not working. But don't be confused with the fan not working because in winter time sometimes the fan is not working and some times it does. As I said, it's a difficult problem to solve but at least start with checking the situation with the fan in the condenser.

It sounds like you have a heat pump. When you first turn on the system the heat strips will come on and produce warm heat (referred to as supplemental heat strips), as temperatures rise the heat strips will turn off and the "A" coil will just exchange heat to maintain temperature thus conserving energy. . Initially the temps will be around 125 degrees at the register, and drop down to about 105 after the strips turn off.

On some TXV controlled outdoor condensing units the Thermostatic Expansion Valve will stick in the cool position and require replacement this will cause this symptom. It takes several hours to do and requires a licensed technician to do as it involves recovery of refrigerants. I hope this helps
