Question about IBM ThinkPad R50p Notebook

Sound output not working

I have a newly refurb'ed IBM R50p and it runs great, but I cannot get the sound to work. I have tried playing with almost everything in "sound" under control panel, but everything that seems to make sense does not produce any sound. I looked for drivers and downloaded one, but to no success. Any ideas ? Probably something simple, huh ?

Re: Sound output not working

Laptops Have a Digital Volume Control.
You have to hold the fn key and press the speaker shape+ or a speaker shape X (no sound button).

Thinkpad R50p reads dvd but not cd

You may need to clean the lens on your dvd drive. Use a VERY TINY amount of rubbing alcohol on the end of a qtip, then use the other end to dry it GENTLY!

You may also have the wrong driver installed for your dvd drive, you can use the manufacturers website to locate any drivers you may need

Also your drive may be defective so after cleaning the lens and updating the drivers there is not much for your dvd drive accept for ebay !! you can buy another drive for not too much money there :)

Hope that helps,

I have installed ubuntu on my ibm thinkpad t23 and have no sound. can you help.

try running alsamixer in a terminal window.

and adjust the levels of all output devices. Use left and write arrow keys to move from one channel to the next.

Some may be muted (completed turned off) which is indicated by "MM". Press the "M" key to toggle and use the up arrow key to raise the volume.

If this doesn't work, then you may have deeper problems.

Use the pull-down menus of System / Preferences / Sound to see if OSS or ALSA gives better results. Pulse Audio is trickier to use in later Ubuntu editions, but it should work ok with Karmic.

Good luck.

I have lenovo notepad 3000n100 with winXP sp2.

Now sound is coming at my output port but the in-built laptop speaker is not giving any sound output.
The hardware is ok as the sound was coming at in-built speaker before formatting. The previous audio driver set up file i have lost.

Dell Inspiron 5150 not playing sound

Your speakers are frying, hence the crackling sound, as this is a frequent problem owing to the location of the speaker assemblies and the sound output in an area of the system where the ambient heat exhaust vents are located.

I am a bit confused, though, as to why you get no better sound through headphones or external speakers, since this is not usually the case in this frequently cited problem.

One possibility is that not only are the speakers, but the entire sound output assembly.

Warrantee work if available, if not try a shop where they also sell used Dell computers as they will have pulls that could cut your losses.

Ibm t41 sound not working

Just to try the obvious...
The volume buttons on the laptop underneath the screen work independently to the volume controls in Windows. Have you tried pressing and holding the volume up button and then playing a sound?

Sound/Audio Driver

Assuming you are using Windows.

install the driver after you download it.

Then go to the device manager
(right-click "Computer", then click "Manage", select "Device Manager")
Then browse for the sound driver in the tree menu to the right of the window.
Right click the sound driver and click "Update Driver"
You may have to manually browse for where the newly downloaded driver was installed (usually somewhere in the C: folder).

After you do that, it should be good to go.

Let me know if this works for you,
