Door Latch mechanism is broken

How do I remove the touch panel , that will allow me access to the latchng mechanism. I need to replace the plastic locking piece.

I had to pull the unit completely out, removed outer cover. This gave me access to the latch mechanism behind the touch panel. On this model, the touch panel cannot be removed unless the outer metal cover is removed.

Cleaned and lubricated mechanism. All is well until the kids slam the door shut again.

    Thank you.

One more item of interest. there was a fair amount of lint build up on the fan and fan screen. I would recommend to anyone to remove the cover on their microwave and clean this area at least annually.

Normally on over the range models, you would unplug the oven from the wall, remove the 2 or 3 screws holding the top grille in place, remove the screw at the top of the control panel frame, then CAREFULLY lift up and out to remove it.
If it is a counter top model, you need to remove the outer cover before remoing the control panel frame.

If you can give us the full model number from the sticker, we might be able to give you more specific help.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa:

The part that holds the door switches inside the oven is broken; can the part be replaced

Yes this can be stuck using a instant glue if the broken pieces can be found. Usually this needs to hold the switch and lock in alignment.
So try this out , you can remove the front panel and get access to this assembly.

Door won't stay shut, microwave will not start

Contact the maker or Google the model number for "parts"

That part likely will require the unit to be taken apart to replace it.

Starts on own F2 appears

Unplug the oven for few minutes, say 30 minutes and then turn it on.If the problem persists, you need to replace keypad. This is a quite easy repair. You would take the grill off along the top over the door. Once off you should see the screws holding the control panel in place. Remove these screws and remove the control panel. You will now have access to replace the part. Please be aware that the unit stores lethal voltage even when unplugged.

F2 means the touch pad has failed, the manufacturer recommends you replace the touch pad and if this fails to clear the problem replace the control board. The manufacturer recommends this but the problem normally relates to the touch pad. The control board sits just behind the touch pad so is accessible by removing the control panel.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Can you give me instructions on replacing the interior light on a GE Monogram Advantium 120 Micro Wave Oven. thank You

I have not worked on this model:

Normally the way to change the light is to remove the interior access panel OR ... (if no access panel) remove the oven cover to get access to the lamp. Two screws on each side and 6 or 8 on the back side. Lift and tilt and slid the cover from the front interlock seam and set it aside. DON'T TOUCH the silver can you see on the side. Find the lamp, remove and replace and put the cover back on.

Allow 15 minutes to do this job. Get a replacement lamp where appliance parts are sold.

Thanks for your question

When I turn on my oven for cleaning it shows a f9 problem...could you help me with that

An F9 error code on a General Electric oven indicates that the oven's electronic control system has detected a problem with the automatic door lock. The automatic door lock mechanism prevents the oven door from being opened when the oven is set for "Clean" mode. The malfunction may be a jammed door lock mechanism, a pinched or broken wire, a faulty lock switch or a fault in the control board itself.

Things You'll Need:
  • Ohmmeter or multimeter
  • Phillips screwdriver

Disconnect power to the oven.
Step 2

Open the oven door. Remove three screws from underneath the oven's control panel. Lift the control panel straight up to disengage the mounting pins on the top corners of the panel, then tip the panel toward you.
Step 3

Inspect the door lock mechanism. The mechanism is in the lower left area of the space behind the control panel. Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to be certain it moves without binding. Replace the mechanism if its mechanical parts do not function properly.
Step 4

Inspect the wires that connect the door lock mechanism to the control panel. Check for pinched or broken wires. Check for wires with frayed insulation. Repair wires as needed if defects are present.
Step 5

Locate the six-pin connector on the door lock motor on the right end of the door lock mechanism.
Step 6

Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to the unlocked position. Test the resistance between Pin 3 and Pin 1 of the door lock connector with the ohmmeter. The resistance should be 0. Replace Lock Switch 2 of the door lock mechanism if the resistance reads other than 0.
Step 7

Rotate the cam on the door lock mechanism to the locked position. Test the resistance between Pin 3 and Pin 2 of the door lock connector with the ohmmeter. The resistance should be 0. Replace Lock Switch 1 of the door lock mechanism if the resistance reads other than 0.
Step 8

Contact a certified repair facility if the source of the F9 code has not been discovered.
Troubleshooting the oven with the electric power turned on is a job for a certified technician.

Do not perform troubleshooting on the oven with the power connected. Personal injury and damage to the oven can result.

Flashing is occurring around the plastic turntable piece which is causing it to melt. Took off and saw that the enamel was pitted around the turntable opening. When I remove the plastic turntable piece, no...

It sounds like you are talking about the turntable tray adapter in the bottom.
What usually causes arcing is the reaction of the RF (microwave) energy acting on carbon. It's great that the motor and orifice are OK. Sounds like you just need to replace the T/T adapter. If the paint is pitted or altered, you need to use a special catalytic paint for microwave cavities to touch it up. The paint's main purpose is to protect the metal from rust but it is a high temperature paint to stand up to the higher temperature of that environment.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

I don't suggest your remove the door itself, because misalignment can allow leakage.

We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site. You'll find a link to our site in our listing here on FixYa:

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:

It looks like the part is called the door latch.

Stuck Microwave door

In most cases this is due to a broken door opening lever or loose or broken door latch / hook parts. They can only be accessed and examined if the cover is removed from the microwave. In many over the range models, you can access the door parts by removing the control panel assembly. Sometimes you may be able to get it open by pushing up gently on the bottom of the door while pushing the button, in case you need to empty it.
