What I have done is checked to make sure everything is connected and everything is connected. It is in a Volvo semi truck, there are two antennas, I have replaced the one on the passenger side. it was broke off. However the radio did work just fine when antenna was broken off. one day radio was working, then it started to fade out over a few minutes time it faded out completely and hasn't worked since.
Is it a digital tuning? If it is does it auto search but just not find any stations? If this is the case then as J.D.Browning suggested it is an aerial problem! You said there are 2 aerials.....how are they connected to the radio?
Testimonial: "I don't know if bothe are connected, I suspect that one on the drivers side is for the audio radio, and the antenna on the passenger side might be for the CB radio. what i am getting from the replies that it very well could be an aerial problem. I have been told other mechanics that the radio was shot and that I needed to replace it. I am very satisfied with these replies that I have received and I will pursue a different approach. to replace the radio it would cost me $810.00 for the same kind. i will let you know the out come. Thanks Ron"
Ist im gonna assume that you have connected antenna to radio ! next this could be a problem with grounding , antennas have to have a good metal ground at there mounting point , and conversely the center of antenna cna not be aloud to touch the metal body or a "short" will develop , it's the same reason to get a radio to work(well) in a fiberglass body car (corvette) one has to run a large wide piece of flat ground cable around inside the entire car
