Re: toshiba dvd rom sd r6012 isn't reading the DVDs

Try some factory CD and DVDs and just try to get them to open in Windows (not play in a media player program). If you get errors on every disc you try, it may be your CD/DVD hardware packing in.

If it reads some CDs or DVDs and not others, particularly media discs, you may be having software driver problems, otherwise, it is likely hardware.

Try inserting the disc and spinning it up while resting the laptop on its side, or even upside down. If it reads sideways or upside down, the CD/DVD reader hardware has gone and cannot probably be prepared (this is a symptom of physical controller failure and is ot fixable by normal means).

Good luck...

I have a Ibm Thinkpad G40. It can´t read some discs but some discs it can read. It has a Toshiba DVD-rom SD C2612. Why can´t it read all discs? And how do I fix it?

Could be a lot of reasons
  • Disc's were corrupted during burning (CRC errors, etc) ---Can't fix
  • Could be a blue ray disc ---Get a blue ray player
  • Disc is damaged (scratches or smudges on the disc surface) --Clean smudges or get a disc repair kit for scratches
  • Optical drive could be flaking out (going bad) ---Replace the optical drive
Comment if you need additional assistance.

Two possible problems:
1. The DVD is of a type your DVD ROM cannot read - make sure you have the latest driver for your device or try a different DVD tray in your PC.
2. The DVD is scratched / Dirty - not enough to affect your friend's PC but yours might be a bit more "fussy" - get your friend to copy the DVD for you and try the copy in your PC. Make sure you don't infringe any copyright on the DVD before considering this second option.

I have a problem with my TOSHIBA DVD ROM SD R6012, dont read enything DVD, only CD

1. you many need to remove and reinstall the device if removable. Then re-install the ddriver set.\More than likely the laser "read" is defective. This is usually a needed replacement unit.
2.Contact Toshiba technical support. There also may be a loose cable which in any case will require a tech to disassemble the PC unit and repair it.
I hope this helps. Have a great day!

After I reinstalled my pc, the toshiba dvd-rom (sd-c2502) only plays cds, not dvds.

Try re-installing your the driver for your dvd rom. Then try to put different dvds and check if it can read from your drive. If problem remains, I suspected it's your dvd rom is faulty

Dvd rom not reading cds/dvds

I had similar problem on a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, I simply had to reconnect DVD drive. It usually loosing it's connection with motherboard and drive is visible in My Computer but it doesn't recognize any discs. If reconnection does not solve your issue you may try to update your DVD firmware and if it won't help replace DVD drive. Good Luck!

Dvd rom not reading dvd while reading cd properly!!!

The demands on the drive differ greatly for reading CDs & DVDs.
This is a common problem since alignment of the drive is very critical for DVDs and often fails first.

I don't offer much hope, but you might buy a special disk for cleaning optical drives; sometimes they will help.

I/o error

If I were you I would go up on toshiba's site and down load the updated firm ware for the laptop.

Select which model A105 you have, Click on show results, click on downloads, and search the 1-4 pages of downloads for the dvd/dvd rom updates. Download install, and rerboot to take effect.

DVD rom drive

It sounds like the drive itself is faulty. Since you've reformatted, it obviously isn't a software problem. CDs and DVDs are read by two different lasers so its not uncommon for one disc not to be read yet the other is just fine which seems to be the case. A new one can be purchased for under $40.
