If it is blowing an excessive amount of fuel while it is running then the cylinder has aprobably worn down and the tolerences are bigger than they should be therefore you are getting fuel back out the carb. If it is leaking while shut off then you have a needle not seating in the carb correctly

I have a problem with my electric generator (don't start ) i allready replaced the sparkplug and new gas and still doesn't start (chicago electric 5500 watts)

did you blow out old gas from gas line going to carb? if this generator set up over the winter with no use, it probably has water condensation in the gas tank which has gotten into the gas line and carb. If you didnt do it already, blow undo the gas line off the tank and use compressed air (or by mouth) to blow out all the fule out of the line and carb. If you did not drain the old gas out before adding new gas, there still may be water in the tank and line. Try this and see if it fixes it. Give it time for the new gas to get through the line to the carb. To avoid this, keep the fuel tank full especially over the winter and you will not get any water condensation.

Hows the best way to clean the varnish that it left in the tank so that it doesn't mess up my carbs again once i get them cleaned out???

Clean gas with gumout or other fule sytem cleansers. Just add a little at a time and keep sloshing it around and rinsing it out. When the gas still looks clean after dumping it out, then take a flash light and look into the tank for varnish. If it still remains let it set over night with fres gas and the fule system cleaner, this will dissolve any left over varnish. Once clean let it dry out and try and blow through the petcock and lines and let some clean gas run out of the valve before hooking it back to the carb so as to flush any remaing gunk out before it gets in the carb.

My chain saw blowing gas out of carb when starts running and then dies

Check the primer bulb and see if it is cracked. If not then the internal diafram is busted and will need replacing.

I have a troybilt 17.5 Briggs I/C OHV that is having trouble starting, gas in the oil and when it does start it is blowing oil everywhere. what is the fix?

you will need to drain all the oil out and you will all so need to flush the fule clean the carb and that mayneed a carb kit you will need to replace the spark plug turn the motter over with the plug out that will blow the gas out and then put oil in it and a new plug allso replace the fule filter and start with new gas if want to know what made this hppen well the carb got some trash in it that let the nedel stick open and let gas run in to the crank case if you need to i can be reached at mowershop@live,com ive done this kinda work for 22 years and i see this all the time

It wont start.

If it was stored with ethanol fuel on board your hoses may have holes or cracks as well. Inspect them carefully. It sounds as if there is a fuel delivery problem. Check the fuel filter on the free end of a hose in fuel tank (manufacturer recommends an annual replacement). Check all fuel delivery lines especially at fittings and bends for cracks and holes. If those are good then the likely cause is internal parts of the carburetor are dirty or have failed. HTH

McCulloch EB358A starts but acts like it is running out of gas

ok you have what sounds to me a blockage in the carb. take it off and thouroughlly clean it. check the diaframs in the carb to see if they are hard and stiff. if they are hard and stiff replace them and clean the carb really well and see if this works.

You will first want to check your fuel lines for cracks/breaks.
2. If they are o.k. then you will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure that the small screen in carb. is free of debris. Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. Check the gasket and diaphragm for breaks or wear. (NOTE): If your carburetor guts, (Carb. Kit), are more than 3 or 4 years old, you might want to replace them while you have it apart. If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Poulan chainsaw wild thing

Remove the spark plug and squirt a little bit of the fuel from the gas tank into the spark plug hole, replace the spark plug and crank it over several times.

If it runs, or tries to run... that tells you that your engine, ignition system and gasoline are good (or atleast good enough to get it started)

Next check your fuel line and the primer ball. Make sure that when you pump the primer ball that you can see it pumping fuel through the fuel lines in ONE direction only. (It's kind of hard to see, you might have to start the test with empty fuel lines).

If that fails, you need a carb kit because that's where the check valves are. (unless your primer ball is cracked, broken, or clogged)

Next check the metering diafram and needle in the carb. If the diafram is hard (not easily flexible) or if the needle valve is stuck shut the engine will not be able to get the fuel that it needs to run.

If the Needle valve is stuck, just clean it and it'll most likely be fine.

If the diaphram is hardened, you need a carb kit.

If all the above is ok and it still doesn't work... check the gasket at the base of the carb to make sure that the posative pressure pulses from the crankcase are able to make it through the little holes into the carb (that's how it pumps fuel into the carb).

That's pretty much all the easy stuff. Keep in mind that a new carb only costs about $28 at most places.
