My Garmin Nuvi 3790T will not acquire a satellite signal

Hello,

Does the GPS work outside of the vehicle?
Where is the GPS mounted?
If the GPS is under the dash, mounting it up on top of the dash will help.
If the Vauxhall has a windshield with a reflective metallic coating or treatment in the glass, this may result in poor GPS satellite reception.

Edge 305 giving inconsistent and inaccurate elevation readings. everything else is cool. any thoughts?

Same for me very often.
I think this is due to starting a road without waiting long enough that sattelites are acquired.

In fact 3 sattellites allow to compute position, 4 are necessary to compute position plus altitude.

Accuracy of position and altitude is much better from 5 sattellites acquired.

So I advise to start your device OUTDOORS, in an open place (not near walls as it masks sattellites) and wait until screen automatically moves to run mode, meaning enough sattellites are acquired.
You will get better chances to have a good accuracy.

Also on Garmin connect site, when you load your ride, you can correct altitudes automatically using real maps.

Updates for garmin sat nav

To increase the accuracy of your Garmin Nuvi 205W, I recommend you use Garmin's WebUpdater service to make sure you have the latest software on your device. Software improvements for acquiring satellite lock and location accuracy have been made.

I hope that helps.

Garmin Nuvi 205 Problems aquiring stellite

usually gps are automatically sensing the signal, with clear view without and sometime even with minimal obstruction like trees windows etc. there is no other way your gps could not acquire signal unles it is having a problem .

all gps thesedays have 10-20 meter accuracy, it is only a receiver, this model particularly have the highest signal.

in other words i suggest you reset your unit from the bottom and see if there is any improvement, replace the unit

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.
