Searched in drafts, sent items, deleted items, in box.
First of all, don't type emails while driving, it's not safe and you should always keep your eyes on the road!
Second of all, emails shouldn't just "disappear" when you hit a bump in the road while you're typing. You probably hit some sort of key combination during the shock which deleted your email.
You could try and login to your mailbox directly as outlook express is just 3rd party software to help you get your emails. For instance if you're using Windows Live Mail or Gmail you could just go to the website, login and check if your email is still there. However, this will depend on your Outlook Express settings. Some of these programs will delete the email from your mailserver in order to keep it from getting full.
Hope this helped!

Just fixed this problem for my father who was sending many, many copies and starting to lose friends. I started going through all the solutions found here and whilst searching for the .DBX files, found that his sent items file had grown to the 2Gb file size limit. I tried deleting items from his Sent Items file, but it couldn't even do that. After confirming he didn't really need anything in his sent items we deleted the Sent Items.DBX file and restarted Outlook Express. Everything now works correctly. Check your file sizes!

SOURCE: Can not delete emails from outlook express
dear friend
i saw this probs in days of win 98
let me tell u what u have to do
if you wish to empty ur deleted items completely
1. create a folder in outlook named "temp"
2. goto tools-> options-> maintenance and see the location of stored folder
3. goto that location
4. close outlook express
5. delete the "Deleted Items.dbx"
6. make a copy of temp.dbx
7. rename copy of temp.dbx to "Deleted Items.dbx"
8. open outlook express again and delete the temp folder too
done....
if you wish to delete few files
just reboot the machine and and open the outlook express right away, now you might be able to open deleted items,
go ahead and delete the old mails
thanks

SOURCE: OUTLOOK EXPRESS - RETRIEVE LOST E-MAILS
Outlook Express is quite complicated software, which has some usual troubles just like other programs. For example like issue I had some times. But probably one of the most variable determinations would become the next tool - dbx repair tool.
