How do I remove - pop up - the back seat bottom part of a Toyota Matrix?

You need to remove the seat bottom first to access the lower attaching points.

At the bottom of the seat (where you sit) there should be two bolts - one left and one on right. You should be able to see them by lifting the bottom of the seat. Remove these bolts and lift the whole seat - from the lower middle area using your hands. It may be a bit tight so give it a good pull but go slow and it should pop up. Pull the bottom part of the seat out and then look on the lower left and right sides - there too there should be two bolts (L & R) , take those out and again pull the seat out while lifting some - it should pop out. Here again give it a good pull but go slow. That should do it.

Remove the headrests. Then slide the cover over the seat back cushion (Photo 5). Push the bottom straps through the gap and into the buckles just like you did on the bottom cushion (refer to Photo 3). Reconnect the bib panel and pull down on the rear portion of the seat back cover to remove wrinkles.

First you have to remove the top then the bottom.

For 2005 Toyota Corolla (and Matrix), the location of the cabin air filter is inside of the drawer (passenger side). Open the drawer, you will see a screw on the RIGHT hand side. Unscrew it with a cross shape screw driver. Unlock the drawer from the screw holder. And take the drawer out of the cabin. After the removal, you will be able to see the location of the cabin air filter. There is a lock at each side of the filter cover. For each side, use two fingers to pinch the lock and pull out the cover. You will see the old filter after removing the cover. Pull it out, and insert your new filter.
Put the cover back. Make sure the two locks are firmly locked. Put the drawer back. To make this work easier, you may lock the bottom of the drawer first, as there are TWO locks on each side of the bottom drawer. Close the drawer to see if the position is right. Place the screw back, that's all

1. Pull the plastic panels under the seat bottom straight forward to remove them.

2. Remove the six bolts (14mm) holding the seat and center seatbelt in place.

3. Pop the two small plastic covers at the top and behind the seat using a trim removal tool or screwdriver tip covered in masking tape.

4. Lift the seat straight upward.

5. Remove.

The Service Manual states a 35 ft lb torque and must be re-installed in a certain sequence for the 6 seat anchor bolts (not the seat belt bolts). When putting the rear seat back in install the bolts in this order. (1) center left (2) center right (3) left lower (4) right lower (5) left upper (6) right upper.

Lift up on the front edge of the seat part and slide it out. Next, remove the bolts that hold the back in place. It will pop right out.
