Lori, I work at an Oreck store on the weekends and we have a special tool that we use to open up the side where you have the belt. Before we got the tool, we just used a needle nose plier and put the two points into a couple of the dimples on the hub for the two large wheels. The side that you need to take off is the side that has the little filter on the inside of the frame. By the way, you should clean that filter off occasionally as well. If you look on the side of the grey hub you will see a pictogram of two different padlocks, one locked and the other one un-locked. You will also see a pictogram of an arrow pointing to the locked padlock and you will need to use the pliers to turn the hub till it points to the un-locked padlock. You can then pull the side housing off and that will expose your belt. You may need to take off the brush plate as well so that it is easier to put your new belt on. Two screws is all that holds that plate in place. Take them out and lift towards the front of the machine. I usually find it easier to put the belt on the brush pulley first and then walk the belt around the motor shaft. Re-assembly is just a matter of reversing the steps you did to take it apart. Hope this helps!

Preclude LW100 Magnesium won’t turn on

Oreck Magnesium machines are prone to electronic failures. Take it to your local vac shop for repair. It probably needs a new PC board

Hi I have an Oreck lw100 magnesium SP and it turns on for a second and then turns right off what do you think that could be thank you

It can be something stuck in roller or fan housing and it is turning off to protect the motor.

The side housing where the belt is will not go back on. It is in the unlocked position and will not turn to locked

Linda,
You need to make sure that cap is sitting completely flat before you can turn it and I usually used a pair of needle nose pliers and stuck the points of the pliers into two of the holes in that cap and used the pliers to turn the cap. It can be hard to turn, so be patient with it. Hope this helps!

When i press the wreck magnesium power button the unit starts but turns off after ten seconds. What the problem as the light continues to flash.

Robert,
You could have a couple of problems. 1, you could have a broken belt, 2, you could have a bad sensor, or 3, you could have a bad pc board. The Magnesium has a sensor that detects whether or not the brush is turning. A quick way to check would be turn the vacuum over and turn it on, if the brush does not turn in those 10 seconds, you have a broken belt. If it does turn, I would suggest taking it to an Oreck repair store because it may still be under warranty and the sensor or pc board may still be covered under warranty. Hope this helps!

What is the problem when the fan housing "tube" is not moving back and forth as it has been; it is very hard to move it. Already asked this question but thought I'd simplify it....

It could be something caught in the mating surfaces of the fan housing, or it could be cracked and getting hung up on the inside of the machine. The only way to know for sure is to take it apart. If you don't trust yourself to be able to do that then I would recommend a vacuum shop!

How do you change the battery in an oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner

At the back of the handle is the battery compartment, There is a simple turn knob to take the cap off to get to the battery. It takes a 2032 button battery. Hope this helps!

Why does blinking light come on and vacuum shuts off

If this is happening right after you turn the vacuum on, you probably have a belt issue or a brush roller issue. I would start with checking your brush roller to see if it spins freely. If it spins real freely, your belt is probably broken. If it spins freely but with some resistance, you still might need to replace the belt. I just worked on one last week that had that problem and a new belt fixed it. Worse case scenario, you might have a bad sensor. That sensor looks for the brush to spin at a certain speed and if it does not sense the right speed, it shuts the vacuum down and the light flashes. Hope this helps!

How do you unlock the head?

I assume you are talking about the side covers that have a lock/unlock icon on them, and the locking ring behind it that has the triangle 'arrow'. If so, the ring with the arrow on it is the piece that turns. Turn it to unlock. It's not easy to grab onto to get that done. On the other end of that side cover (both left and right), under the roller brush, there is a tab that locks the cover into the front bumper. Take a small flat screwdriver and pry it apart. The side cover will swing around. This is the piece that has to come off to change the belt. You might have to do this first to swing it around to get the locking ring off. Those things are pretty tight. Hope this helps.
