Yes, but you will need to add interface card EHWIC 1GE SFP CU, in addition to the interface card, a SFP module will be required to make the optical ports working.

Can,t get net flex on tv. in settings it says the signal is excellent but it cannot connect to the internet. I can get net flix on the computer. I'm using a blue ray, modem, computer, and wireless netgear...

You may have to see if you get enough bandwidth....the more devices you have off your router the less internet each gets...also wifi connection is not as fast as a wired connection. Check to see your speeds, HD requires 4 times more bandwidth than regular videos.

When my daughter uses her ipod wi fi my internet speed drops

Setting the QOS priorities enables the wireless router administrator to control bandwidth traffic by setting certain ports or device MAC addresses to high priority and others to normal or low priority. These settings will give high priority devices and ports first access to bandwidth, while limiting bandwidth for the lower priority devices and ports.

I have 10 computers and 2 printers networked in the office. I'd like to hae them all wired. I bought a 10/100 switch but not sure how to hook it up with my router. Any advice?

Most low to mid range switches require no configuration. Switch-to-router connections use a standard straight-through CAT-5 network cable, same as for your PC. Connect any switch port to any LAN port on the router (you didn't say if your router has more than one) and then connect your PCs and printers to the other switch ports with CAT-5 network cables. The WAN port on the router remains connected to the upstream (Internet) provider.

I have tried a 'spare' LAN connection in the office but my pc will not connect to the network. Does the port require activating?

The port shouldn't need 'Activated'. If you are trying to connect using a 'spare' port in the wall, the wall socket may need 'patched' in to the network to allow your computer to communicate through it.

If you are connecting directly to the router/switch/network hub, it may possibly be an upload port you've connected to (a port used to connect one hub to another or to the main network). There is sometimes a switch next to the port to change it to a normal port, alternatively try selecting a different port to see if your computer will connect.

Amber lights on a Cisco switch.

It sounds like you have loops in your topology. Loops will cause the LAN to crawl.

Amber, on a Cisco switch port means that a port has been blocked either as a security violation (if mac-address security is being used) or by spanning-tree protocol which shuts down ports involved in a network loop.

Check all your wiring carefully...especially the fiber-to-ethernet converters. If anybody has a hub or switch under their desk make sure they do not have two ports from that device patched into two ports in your cisco switch.

From Cisco catalyst 3500 user guide:

Solid amber

Port is not forwarding. Port was disabled by management or an address violation or blocked by Spanning-Tree Protocol (STP).

Note After a port is reconfigured, the port status LED can remain amber for up to 30 seconds as STP checks the switch for possible loops.
