Question about Kenmore 14410 Humidifier

Quiet Comfort 42-14411

The wick in my humidifier is drying out. I run in the whisper mode and it still dries out the wick. At first I had hard water and the wick clogged with calcium. I now have a water softener which stopped the clogging but it still dries out. The wick doesn't seem to draw the water up high enough. Could it be the pellets I use in the softener? I use Morton Salt.

Re: Quiet Comfort 42-14411

I just did a google for universal humidfier filter........

Universal Humidifier Filter #ALL-1 by Vista Solutions ONLY $ 7$ s/h.

picked up a 1411 for $18 at Salvation Army and haven't closely inspected the wick since it looked OK. The unit boosted the main living area 8 percent in 4 hours. . I got frustrated after two weeks of researching different types of furnace mounted units, but haven't ruled out going that route next year, once I am certain about the entire install procedure.

Those filters don't last forever! Whenever I had that problem, I just replaced the filter. (The fresh filters also contain some kind of anti-bacterial or anti-fungal, since you're not supposed to add anything to the water which would spray into the air.) My problem has been finding new filters--does Sears still carry them? (The small one I was in recently does NOT.)

The GE humidifier adds a continuous stream of cool mist intothe air, giving moisture to dry air due to cold weather or dry climate or tohelp those who desire additional moisture because of respiratory problems orallergies. Sold online and in many department or home retail stores, thehumidifier requires regular cleaning and maintenance for proper functioning andto help keep mineral scale or bacteria from growing in the humidifier. ·1 Connect the power cord on the GE humidifier firmly to a power outlet if thehumidifier is not working. Replace or reset the circuit breaker as necessary.Turn the power switch to "On" if there is power but the unit is notoperating. · 2 Fill thewater tank to the "Fill" mark if the mist output is low or notpresent. Wait 15 minutes after filling the tank and before starting thehumidifier to allow the wick filter to absorb the water for proper function.Turn the humidistat knob to a higher setting for higher output. · 3 Check the capon the water tank and close the cap firmly. Check the rubber tank cap ring onthe cap and reseat firmly to help provide a better seal. · 4 Replace thewick filter with a new wick filter, available through General Electric, if thewick filter inside the base turns brown. Replacement parts may be ordered bycalling 877-207-0923. · 5 Clean thewater tank with vinegar and a soft brush if the water begins to get cloudy.Rinse well before refilling with water. Use cold water in the tank, as warm orhot water may make the water appear cloudy. · 6 Loosen thetank cap slightly if the humidifier cycles on and off unexpectedly. Turn theknob to a higher or lower setting. Thanks.

The Hunter 33202 uses a recirculating pump to keep the aluminum mesh wicks (filters) wet. There is a vinyl hose which runs from the pump outlet to the top of the main unit (you will need to lift the main unit off the base to see any of this, much less do anything to fix the noise). The top of the hose meets the diffuser, which has several small holes to drain into that V-shaped double trough (located directly above the two wicks) which has larger drain holes on either side. If any of the holes in the diffuser or the trough become clogged, the other holes will tend to release a higher volume of water, which could lead to that running faucet sound. The clogs are easy to dislodge-- they're usually mineral deposits from the water. Another likely cause is the filters becoming clogged from dust that's being sucked in from the fan. Easy fix, also-- remove the wicks every week or so and thoroughly rinse them under running water.

Runs, but no humidity

These things have a "sponge" appearing part that is located below the tank. Be sure to totally soak that part in water before trying to use the unit. I had one of these about 3 years ago, and the same thing happened to me. I believe the "sponge", which is really a filter, actually wicks the water into the section of the humidifier that sends water vapor out of the top. You must completely soak it to "Prime" the system, so to speak. That is what worked for me.

Cool Mist Humidifier Filter Drying Out

How long are you going between filter changes?

A filter that stops wicking water up and turns orange/yellow is one full of deposits.

It sounds like you have hard water. How are you filtering this water before you use it? Distilled water is the best.

Replace the filter. They don't last forever. Mine normally last a month to a month and a half.

Good Luck

Need to clean the filter

This is the link to your manual.
Daily Maintenance
Turn switch to OFF position and unplug the cord from wall outlet.
2. Lift the Water Tank from Base. Carefully remove the Water Tray from the base being
careful not to damage the delicate Wicking Filter. Empty excess water from the Water Tray
without removing the Wicking Filter. Remove the Tank Cap and drain any water from the
Water Tank. Rinse the Water Tank with lukewarm water after each use. Wipe accessible
surfaces of the Water Tank and Water Tray clean with a soft, damp cloth.
3. Do not immerse the Base in water. For storage, wipe dry with a soft, clean cloth. Keep
water away from the Air Outlet.
4. Do not leave water in the Water Tank or Water Tray when unit is not in use as it may
result in the build up of mineral deposits and bacteria that can inhibit the output
efficiency of the humidifier. Please note that if water remains in the Water Tank for more
than a day or two, bacterial growth is possible.
5. Replace Water Tray with Wicking Filter. Then replace the Tank. Humidifier is now ready for
Weekly Maintenance

2. Turn switch to the ON position, either low or high speed, and operate Humidifier until the

5. Remove the Water Tray from the Base. Fill Water Tray with undiluted white vinegar. Let
stand for 20 minutes.
6. Dampen soft, clean cloth or sponge with undiluted white vinegar and wipe out Water Tray
to remove scale. Do not use soap, detergents or abrasive cleaners.
7. Rinse the Water Tray thoroughly in clean warm water or put in top shelf of dishwasher to
remove scale and vinegar before disinfecting the Water Tray.

Disinfecting the Water Tray and Tank
Fill tank with 1 teaspoon of household bleach in 1 gallon of water. Let stand twenty (20)
minutes, shaking vigorously every few minutes, drain and rinse with clean water until the
bleach smell is gone. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel.
2. Wipe the Water Tray with a soft cloth dampened in the bleach and water solution. Rinse
the Water Tray thoroughly or place in dishwasher before proceeding.
3. Wipe all exterior surfaces of the Base with a soft, dry cloth. Do not immerse the Base in
water or use water to clean the base. An electric shock may result or the humidifier may
be damaged.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Hunidifier doesn't add enough moisture to air

here is the link to the manual for the w7 - they suggest a replacement wick filter would solve the problem due to bacteria or mineral build up - i would expect this to solve your problem as the only way these wicks can not soak up the water to the top is if they are clogged or the tank is empty. try the cleaning routine on page 9 first - might be enough but the wicks probably will need replacing soon anyway. Hope this helps :)
