Question about Rinnai Desa Vent-Free Infrared Gas Heater: Vent-Free Infrared Gas Heater(18,000 BTU)

1 Answer

Vent free infared heater

Brand new last season my LP vent free IR heater worked perfectly. This season, the far right heater plaque glows for a short while then it starts "popping" steady, it doen't glow and a blue flame can be seen on the front side of the plaque. The other 3 plaques work perfectly. I used low pressure compressed air and blew out the area, no change.
Any suggestions

Re: vent free infared heater

What you are experiencing is common if the plaques are either out of alignment or the burner is dirty. I know you said you cleaned it with low pressure air, but you need at least 120 PS. of air to clean the burner and plaques as per the owners manual.

My glo warm plaq doesnt glow red but has flame.thanks

The plaque may be out of place or may need replacing, depending on the age of the heater.
Also, although you have flame, make sure you have flame at that plaque that's equal to the other plaques. If you don't the burner may simply need cleaning.

Lp vent free gas log inserts pilot light wont light

Could need a new thermocouple, but...The orface needs to be cleaned most likely. As long as you have proper pressure and the valve is set properly, it sounds like a supply problem.
Call your gas company, they will service it for you. You would need to have specialized equipment in order to clean the orface properly without damaging it.
Good luck

Have a vent free lp wall mounted heater.40 lp tank with regulater. pilot light will light but only the tip of pilot light is flame.there is a space between pilot light and tube where lp comes out. does not...

Too much gas pressure. Are you sure that this is a LP heater and not a Natural gas heater? Is the regulator you have rated under 1/2 pound pressure? Try to throttle down the shutoff on the tank to see if pilot gets better. If so, you have a pressure issue. Gas you adjust the pilot gas valve?

Rinnai Energysaver 1001FT, ignites, blows 5mins then shuts down.

Sounds like it is reaching high limit...either the filters on the back are plugged, or the manifold pressure isn't adjusted properly. IF the exhaust were plugged on the unit, it wouldn't fire at all, since it has a pressure switch to verify vent flow. The slightest blockage, the unit will lock out to prevent damage to the unit.

Infrared Heater - flaming thru plaque

I had this problem. From using the center brick most of the time, lots of dust bunnies build up in the gas chimney behind the brick.
Tie 2 pipe cleaners together with a small perpendicular circle at the top and carefully remove the dust bit by bit by twirling the cleaner.
The brick should fire like new if it is carefully cleaned out.

When was the last time you cleaned the pilot? In your owners manual there is a cleaning procedure. If you can't find the manual, go to You may be able to download one from their site.
