I bought a new switch but now when I push it the water starts to fill the washer. My son in law previously messed with it. how can I find out I which terminals on the other end (left of the switch} they should be connected to?I have a wiring diagram but it does not make sense to me.Please help
Correct the wiring. Manuals are available on line. You need to get somebody that can read the diagram.
Testimonial: "I have the wiring manual but I can't figure it out.2 handymen said it looks ok to them, but they did not know either.Electricians here charge so much just to come out $95 +. It was working just the switch was faulty.I suspect my son in law pulled off the contacts and put them back in the wrong place on the selector control.Seems I am alone on this.I guess I am going to have to try and make sense of the diagram again.Kinda nervous around electrical stuff. Thanks anyway"

you got a problem with your power supply for sure. check and make sure both your breakers are on inside the fuse box. turn them completely off and them back on(there should be 2 linked together for this unit. if that ok try to gt behind the unit and check the incoming power source(make sure wiring on rear of dryer is in tact. def sounds like inadequate power supplied to unit
SOURCE: Filling With Water
If the water continues when electricity is discontinued the soleoid valve is jammed open, a fleck of rust or something, not designed to be repaired, it is easier and cheaper to replace. they are a standard part that fits 99% of all washers ~$10-20 at the local parts guy.
Usually only the cold solenoid has failed. it gets used more often.
If you are like me and only use cold water, swap the hoses on the taps, and swap the wire connectors on the solenoid valves, so the former hot is now cold, and you will get about the same number of years before you have to replace anything

Check to see if there's good water volume coming through the hoses attached to the washing machine. If there is, check to see if the screens inside the water-inlet valve are clean. (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If they're clean, you probably have a defective water-inlet valve. If so, you should completely replace the valve.
------------------------
The water-level switch regulates your washer's fill volume. This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch.
The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine.
No cold water or no hot water - The fill valve has two coils, one for the hot water and one for the cold water. It is possible that one of the coils can fail and you loose that filling ability. If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. If the hot coils quits, you will still have cold water fill, cold water only on a warm setting and no water on a hot fill setting. You can test a fill valve live for 120 volts, power to a fill valve coil and no fill = a bad fill valve. You can also test the coils for continuity, no continuity = a bad fill valve. Some Maytag washers have a fuse in the fill valve circuit, if this fuse let go the washer will not fill. Fill valves can also from time to time stick open and not stop filling. If you have to shut off the fill valves to stop the water from filling in the washer, you have a bad fill valve and you will have to replace it.

HI. Check and see if you might have tripped the breaker. If there is a ground fault outlet close by. check that as well.
It sounds like you bypassed it properly. Try and reconnect the wires with the wire nut. Sometimes it doesn't connect properly.
I hope this helps you.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks

Thanks, I do have the manual although I could not find one online. My problem is with interpratation of which ones go where on the dial selector posts. Two grey ones go to the switch it self and I tried those twice. reversing the leads. It made no difference.I suspect my son in law took them off and put them back on the wrong posts.I am alone on this.My 2 handymen were no help said it looked ok to them.Guess I will have to study it again. thanks anywayn
