Why Can't I print documents?

What application are you printing from?

Are you trying to print a PDF with a lot of scanned images or embedded content? Large PDFs can bog down printing.

Try to find a simple text-only PDF (no graphics or scanned stuff) with only a few pages and print it.

Some third party PDF generators do not make clean PDFs. They are malformed and can cause issues when printing.

Misaligned printing of row and columns

Hi Myles,

Please perform print head alignment procedure first. You can access this function from maintenance menu on the printer driver.

Be sure also to print the document in high quality mode when you meet such the problem. If the problem still persist you may need to clean film timing slit of the printer.

I can not scan from my HP Photosmart C7180 All in one. Mac OSX 10.6.8 I can copy, print but not scan.

Launch the OSX system preferences, click on the Print & Scan Icon located in the Hardware row, select your printer in the left hand column, click the Scan button above the right hand box, click on the Open Scanner button, a new window will open, click on the scan button in the upper right hand corner of that new window, set your document on the flat glass panel of your multi function printer/scanner, and click the scan button located in the lower right hand corner of the window, once scanning is complete, your document image should appear in a new window and save the image from there.

My color black does not print at times

Hi mserio007,

Please perform a deep cleaning.

1. Press the button on the printers operation panel.

2. Press the left [] arrow buttons to select [MAINTENANCE].

3. Press the button.

4. Press [] to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] for normal print head cleaning. Select [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.

Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.

5. Press .

6. Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshing if the pattern is not correct.

If this does not work, then It seem the contacts on the print head are damaged and you have to replace the print head to resolve the issue. But before that you can follow the steps below to remove the print head and then cleaning the copper contacts on them with a cotton swab dampened in distilled water until they are clean after drying them check the issue if the problem persist then replace the print head to resolve the issue.

1. Make sure the power is turned on.

2. Press [Open] and lift up the scanning unit. The print head holder automatically moves to the center of the machine.

Do not try to manually move or stop the print head holder.
Do not touch any metal parts.
Press on the tab to release the ink tank, then remove it from its slot. Repeat this process until all ink tanks have been removed from print head.

3. Lift up the lock lever and take out the print head.

4. Reinsert the print head.

5. Insert the ink tank into the empty slot on the print head. Press down gently on the top of the tank until an audible click is heard. Make sure the ink tank is inserted into the correct color slot.

6. Close the scanning unit until it locks into place.

7. When the LCD displays [ALIGN PRINT HEAD], press on the operator panel. The machine will print a horizontal line pattern, and the LCD will display [CHANGE H VALUE] on the top row and [A 0] at the bottom row.

(A): Column A
(0): Value for Column A

8. In column A on the printout, note which box has the most solid image. Note the value next to this box and use [Left cursor] or [Right cursor] on the operator panel to enter it then press .

9. Repeat step 9 for columns B to K.

10. When values for all columns have been entered and the LCD displays [PRINT VERT. PATTERN?] on the top row and [YES=(*) NO=(#)], press [#] to return to standby mode.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My printer will not print. I recently changed ink cartridges and I'm getting a message suggesting that I realign something. How do I do that?

Most all-in-ones require you to scan an alignment sheet after changing the ink. Make sure the printer is on. Press Menu then use the up and down arrows to navigate to Maintenance. Click OK. Navigate to Auto Head Align and press OK. Select Yes and press OK. Load a sheet of Letter or A4 sized plain white paper in the rear tray, follow the on-screen directions. Open the output tray gently and the output tray extension. Press OK. When the page prints out, do not touch the printed sections. You should see a set of broken lines on the page, among other printing. The first section of columns will have 2 black, 1 blue and 3 black. The next row has 4 columns (blue and pink (to my eye)); the final row is 3 blue and 3 pink. If this prints okay, then select Yes and press OK. Next place the printed page face down on the glass of the scanner unit so that the black triangle at the top left of the page is in the left back corner of the glass. (The triangle is an alignment mark and lines up with the alignment mark on the edge of the scanner unit.) Close the document cover and press OK. The sheet will be scanned and the print heads will be adjusted. Do not open the document cover or move the sheet until the unit has completed the adjustment. Afterwards you can discard the sheet.

If the unit fails to adjust the print head, it will indicate this in the LCD screen. In that case, try manually adjusting the print head from the Canon Toolbox on your computer. If you can't get the printhead to align properly manually, the unit may need service.

For pictures, see the manual or support for the all-in-one here: . If you use the Support option, search for align print head.

I hope this helps.

Why doesn't my printer let me print assignments like resumes etc???

You may have used a template to make a resume. I am assuming you use Microsoft word to do your assignment. If that is the case, you start with a blank sheet of paper. For example,If you would like to have rows and columns, click on table then insert rows or columns and use tab button to move from one column to other. Basically, in the absence of a template you need to do your own design of the page.
Even after that you need to check how the printer is going to print it. To do that, Click on file. Scroll down to print preview. Click on that. When the page opens it will show how exactly the printer is going to print. (You may notice some lines you had on the original document is missing in the new view) If what you see is not what you need, then make necessary changes in the original document. For example borders on table properties. Once done, come back to preview.

Scans @ 75-80% of original do I get it to scan @ 100%

the only thing I can think is the scan or print settings on the printer itself. there should be a way to adjust the size from either the printer or the preferences on you computer in the print screen.
