This has been a great machine, but has develop an odd fault. When inserting a dvd into the drive the machine 'thinks' quite while and then comes up with either of the two messages: "no disk" and then does nothing, or "unknown disc, check disc origin" and then ejects the disc automatically. Dvd's have become unplayable. Have tried to restore factory settings, but i have no idea if anything actually changed. Have tried "resetting" as per manual (troubleshooting page) but again nothing seems to happen. What to do? Can you help.
Harry
When attempting to copy from VCR to DVD the option for burn is "grayed" out and does not allow the proceedure to work. Is there a limit to burns on a DVD player for burning? If not does anyone know of a solution for a fix?

the machine will not play either movies or cds it said nothing on cds or movies the unit is only 2 years old and only used about 10 times what up ???
I am seeking help for a similar problem, only my Pioneer DVR-112D won't recognize one certain disk... the installation disk for my router. Yeah, grrrr! I can put in other software CDs and DVDs and all that, and they work fine. I can stick the router disk in my other computer, and it works fine. So why the heck won't this machine read this disk? I wouldn't be whining too much if it wasn't the one that's in the same room and hard-wired to the router. I hate to drag my other machine in here, and this bugs me.
For now, I'm going to go driver hunting. Maybe that will work. Additional advice is much appreciated.

my ndh-80 player also takes a long time to read dvd discs. cannot read audio cds but can read dvd data discs no worries. sometimes will play moves after several attempts once playing has no problem along the way.i have tried cd cleaning discs to no avail and now are looking at firmware upgrade
Harry, two possibilities that are immediately apparent. One, the lens on the drive is dirty. Stop by a department store and buy a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner CD and put it in the drive several times, making sure that it tries to read it each time. This can brush away the debris on the lens and it may work again. Two, the drive motor or lens assembly (that moves) has failed. My experience is that these drives have a 2-3 year life span. Luckily, they are now bargain-priced and you can pick them up at your local discount store and replace them yourself.
