Question about Irons

1 Answer

Tefal express Hello There, I have just inherited the above iron from a relative who has just died. There is no instructions with it. Although I have it working, I don't know why it sometimes makes a rumbling noise and what the on switch is came on without pressing that.....and if its ok to use asda cheap bottled water in it as I live in a hard water area. I also need to find out about descaling.......sorry....lots of questions, thankyou, Margaret Cox.

Tefal Pro Express GV 8120 Iron. New Iron - will not heat up and turn itself on. Green light just keeps flashing.

If it is a new iron, take it back to the dealer. Any attempt to repair or adjust on it will void the guarantee.

Tefal Express 1750 has water dripping from it when using steam

That means that water is not heated properly and does not produce steam.

Try a complete descaling, often this happens because the water reservoir and heating element is covered with scale.

Tefal Pro Express - Constant Steam (Model 2932)

Great answer from Jacquief above. To which I add try giving the base of the iron and its button, a very light tapping with a tack hammer (much smaller and lighter than a standard hammer) wrapped in a tea-towel. This can often break up the lime scale seal which has formed somewhere inside and is not responding to Jacquief's method. In future never use scale laden tap water in your iron, use $2 litre bottles of distilled water from any supermarket.

Tefal express

The rumbling noise is the steam generator working - make sure the water reservoir is full and press the on button. Inside the machine will be doing its stuff and generating steam - this is the noise that you are hearing and when you press the release switch (normally under the handle of the iron) then the steam will be expelled. The noiose comes on and off as it is making more steam - this is normal. I use ordinary tap water but don't have hard water so have no problems - also make sure you empty out the base occassionally - should be a large pressure screw behind the cable holder - make sure iron is off and cold before doing this and then shake it out and residue bits will come out - then flush out with water. These are brilliant to use and you will wonder how you managed before having this - Happy ironing.
