No LCD Display, Does not Boot

Hi Guys ~ i've got a t23 that doesn't boot. what happens if i plug the power supply, the battery indicator blinks but once i press the power button it doesn't do anything. even the battery indicator stops blinking. no beeps or anything that would at least give a hunch about the problem.

appreciate any assistance.

I would check the power adapter with a multimeter first thing.

Any damage? Drop? You get Nothing? No fan spin? No LED's blink? Nothing? You didn't supply the Toshiba model or the OS? How old? Is it time to replace the CMOS battery?

My laptop won't work on battery now!!

look at the bottom of the laptop where you install the battery, there's should be what looks like metal contacts where the battery connects to the actual computer. make sure that when you installed the battery you didn't accidentally bend 2 of them so they were touching eachother. you may have created a direct short which is what caused your heat and the smell. try to plug the battery back in and be careful that you don't bend the metal contacts.

Toshiba satellitep205d-s7438 won't boot up

You need to be more specific and tell what happens when you plug in the power cord and press the power button. There are a number of reason why a computer will not boot, but if you tell what's going on someone can help you.

Computers don't boot for basically the following reasons, 1) the power supply is bad. That means when you plug it in you don't see any lights, and when you press the power button nothing happens, you hear no fans, no beeps, no blinking lights, no hard drive spinning, no cd drive clicking and nothing appears on the lcd screen.

2) A motherboard issue, usually when this happens you will either see blinking lights or hear beeps. Those blinking lights and beeps are codes that tell the technician what is really going on.

3) Static Buildup - try removing the battery and the power cord then Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds put the power cord back in (leave the battery out) and Press the Power Button. If it boots up you had static buildup and can replace the battery, count your blessings and Thank The Lord cuz a dishonest repairman would have told you he had to replace the motherboard for $300

Ibm t23 thinkpad no display already check ram still no display

Does it throw a beep code after you turn it on? Try plugging a monitor into the VGA port on the back and see if it displays there on boot. In my experience no video usually indicated a memory problem but it could possible be a video card or lcd inverter.

My sony vaio vgn-nw320f was totally dead.i had pulled up the battery cause it could not log off.please help me.....

Most sony laptop power supplies have a power LED that indicates if the device is A) plugged in {ok it happens!}, or B) fried and not providing power to the laptop. Check this first. If the power supply is plugged in and the LED is on (usually green or red) then see if you have ANY lights on the laptop itself. Its possible that your LCD display went bad but that the laptop is otherwise running. You may see a power, hard drive or wireless network light on if the laptop works but the LCD went bad. You can also connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up to check the LCD.
I've also seen where the battery goes bad and it keeps the laptop from booting. Try removing the battery and power up (with the ac adapter plugged in) again.
If neither of these helps, you may be looking at some kind of internal short on the motherboard which is big money. Hopefully that isn't the case.
Hope this helps!!

I have a toshiba x205 sli-5 and i think it overheated from sitting on a bed.Now i try to boot up and it beeps 3 times and no display or sound

The BEEP code usually indicates a problem with your memory, cpu, power supply or motherboard.

With your power plugged in, try pressing the power button for 10 seconds.

If your power supply light is blinking unplug the power and remove the battery. Then without plugging in the power cord, reinsert the battery and turn on the computer and see if it boots up. The AC adapter may be defective and need replacing. Your battery may also be defective. You may need to contact Toshiba support at

T23 Thinkpad turns off during boot after restart

My guess would be ;-
A power supply problem with the battery and/or power adapter
The most likely one.
The CPU is overheating and shutting down and if you wait a while and it will power it up again, it will then run for a while and shut down again.
This can be caused by a faulty fan (its not spinning and needs to be replaced) or the vents are clogged with dust (needs to be cleaned and you may need to remove the fan assembly to do this).

Power on failure

Remove the battery. Plug the AC adapter. Then try to power on.
If it still fails to boot up, it is a no post issue, probably a systemboard failure.
Hope this helps...

No boot

Sounds like the motherboard is getting power to the lights but not to the rest of the computer. try to drain all the power out of the laptop by unplugging it and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and try again if this does not fix it your motherboard is probably shot and would need replaced.
