I did our usual 6 month replacement of the PureSource2 filter in our fridge, but during the 3 minute of running the water, the water stopped.

At first it came out strong, then sputtered as usual, then stopped. Eventually after 5 minutes a very thin stream of water returned. And sometimes it would stop. I put the old filter back in, same thing. Not sure what happened, but it appears the new filter is fine.

Hello rodger;

my name is peter. i am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

you may have gotten a bad water filter. once, as a service technician we received a supply of bad water filters. all of us technicians have to return to our service calls and replace the water filters.

what had happened is the granules in the filter fell apart and plugged up everything, including the water solenoid valve filter screen.

remove the water filter and see if you can flush your system out by running your water dispenser with out the filter.

Check ice and water filter: If equipped, the Ice and Water filter in your refrigerator is responsible for removing any debris or contaminants from your water that may still remain after local water treatment. Most filters contain and are made up of carbon and fabric filter. Over time, the filter may become restricted and reduce the water flow to the ice maker, causing a symptom of little or no ice. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 6 months but local water conditions may require that you replace more frequently. Lastly a clogged drain line can cause a foul smell and get into the ice and water as we,,.

Slow water flow

I would try the backwash as you suggest. Also, I had to run a few gallons of water through a new filter, for it to work properly..
Hope it helps.... good luck!

After replacing the cartridge, the water flow is extremely poor. After calling GE, I was told I may have a bad filter. Hope not at the price per filter they charge. Is there any other solution? Is it...

The GE GXRLQR is the correct *replacement* filter for the following "Smartwater" single stage filtration and exterior refrigerator icemaker systems:
  • GE GXRLQ
  • GE GX1S50F
  • GE GQ1S50F
This filter is rated for only 750 gallons / 6 months of use (typical fridge with ice maker & water service). Most home faucets will deliver about 6 gallons / minute which roughly translates to about 2 hours of running water.

The GE FQSLF works with the following for the following Dual Stage Under Sink filtration systems:

  • GE GQSL55F
  • GE GXSL55F
Because there are 2 filters, they will last nearly 2x as long as the GE GXRLQR. and would likely be better suited to serving a faucet which will pass much more water than a fridge ice maker & chilled water dispenser would.

The real question is: Which GE filtration SYSTEM (not filters) do you have?

Hi, I have a question

Hello Kiran - Often cloudy water is caused because the water was not purged. Try purging the water lines by running water through the filter for a total of 3 minutes. This can be done either in one big bucket or in various cups. If the water remains cloudy, then I highly suggest verifying that the filter is in good conditions with no cracks or damages. If the filter is working, then I recommend checking your tap water. If these troubleshooting steps prove ineffective, you may wish to contact a professional as the unit may possibly have an issue within the refrigerator lines.

Replacement water filter won't stay in place.

I too had this problem...the metal tabs in the filter housing need to be bent in toward the center to hold the new filter tighter...I also filed the tabs that rest on the spings down a bit to lessen the tension. So far so good!

Four year old amana side by side has stopped cooling. Sounds like compressors is not kicking on. what's wrong?

Unplug it for 30 minutes to an hour and it should start up again. Problem is your compressor is no good. Get ready for a new fridge in 3-6 months.

Water stopped flowing on my frigidaire, replaced the filter (Frigidaire Frigidaire PureSource2 Water Filter WF2CB) and still no flow. Filter was old. About a year and a half or so. Any ideas on how to...

If you by pass the filter does the water flow? I suspect your water valve may have gone bad. Have you tested that by any chance? Also make sure the filter is in correctly and no loose lines and is locked in tightly. I would do two things: make sure the water reservoir in the refrigerator (behind the bottom drawer) is not frozen and check if 120 VAC coming to the water valve solenoid while the water dispenser calls for water.
Here is a link to a page that describes how to test the water valves.

I have a 1hp sta-rite above ground pool pump. The pump model number is MPRA6E-147L The pump is about 4 years old, and during our summers it runs about 12 hours a day (May through September) and during...

It sounds like there was a lack of water to the reservoir, which is, I assume the inlet reservoir with the basket strainer in it.
1. Is your water level in the pool high enough to keep the reservoir full?
2. There is an o-ring or gasket on the reservoir cover, is it there and lubricated so there is no air leakage?
3. Put a garden hose into the open reservoir to see if the pump moves this water out.
Do all of this with the filter set to just go back to the pool so you can see the results.
Try this and comment back.
Good Luck,
Gary
