Acer aspire 3000 no power up

No lights, no beeps ,nothing!
Laptop is Just over 1 year old.
I tried using a known good power supply and still no bootup or anything .
Also with battery out too, still nothing either way.
Thinking there must be something in the circuitry gone bad?
Any ideals as to what part usually goes out on these ?
Thanks for your input

Remove the two nuts from the external monitor port right next to the power jack. Just wiggle the motherboard out. That should do the trick.

Try to clear cmos by changing the position of its jumper ( while power is off) near the batery in the mainboard then return it to its position.

Follow this link and it will take you to a disassembly guide for the Acer 3000 series. But it is pretty basic and I think you may be past the points that it covers. There is also a note with a link in the top section to get to the service manual. This only gets you chapter 6, which is an exploded parts view with a list of part numbers. Maybe that link will be of more help.

Will keep looking for you!

Acer computers are known to have low quality Power Supply's.
The one in your Acer could have a weak voltage power rail. No, not something that is easily fixable. It's more intelligent to replace it with a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply for a test.

1) Monitor not detecting.
In otherwords, No Signal. No video signal because the computer isn't working. LED lights may light, perhaps fan/s spin, but there isn't enough power to turn the Processor on.

A) ALL of the LED lights on at once use less than 1 Watt of power.

B) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

C) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts of power. Just depends on what Processor it is.

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160? Can use Up To 65 Watts,

[ TDP = 65W
Thermal Design Point.
65 Watts ]

Known to be good, Compatible power supply:

The Acer M1640 desktop computer just uses an ATX form factor power supply. The kind installed in over 80 percent of desktop computers out there.

Form Factor is a term used for motherboards, but has gone on to other various computer parts.
It refers to the size, and shape of the Power Supply's case, and the power cables the power supply has.

Size and Shape:
Approximately 6 inches Wide, 5-1/2 inches Long, and 3-1/2 inches Tall.

Power Cables:
1) 24-pin ATX main power cable,

2) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

3) Should have at least 2 SATA power cables.

4) Should have one 6-pin PCI-Express power cable.

5) Two to Four, 4-pin ATX standard Peripheral power cables,

{Misnomered as Molex. The name Molex stuck, just like Crescent wrench did for an open-end adjustable wrench }

[ The links to power cables above are part of a main page. Scroll up to the top of the page, and click on the photo - SATA power cable, for more info on SATA power cables ]

Perhaps there is an unused computer, that you can borrow it's power supply for a test unit.
The Acer M1640 just uses a 250 Watt power supply. (ATX form factor)

(If the power supply has more Wattage it's okay.
A Computer ONLY Uses the Power it Needs, and No More.

If you installed a 10,000 Watt power supply, {Exaggeration}, and the computer only needed 100 Watts for what it was doing, it would ONLY use 100 Watts, and No more )

Would like to hear back from you. Post in a Comment.

Hi there,
Try flashing the BIOS of your machine by downloading the update from the website of your computer manufacturer.
If that does not work other troubleshooting steps to try are:
1. Use a known good working adapter from another laptop that matches yours. 2. Try another battery.
Hope this helps!

My acer aspire 4740g does not power on. i have removed the battery and directly connected to the power supply but still does not turn on.

Problem description:
The laptop is completely dead. When you plug the AC adapter and press on the power button, nothing happens. The laptop has no signs of life at all. None of the LED lights is working.
Possible cause:
1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:
1. Test the AC adapter with a multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.
Acer Aspire 4740 AC Adapter
2. It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one.
Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.
3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

Only memory has a problem, if no, then;

If you can hear a beep then fix back the memory and start the system.
