I have a hp / compaq nx9010 laptop , i want to format it but i do want to lose my files . what is it that i down to format with so that i do not lose my files or how do i go about it. thanks

If you format the hard drive, you will lose your files. If you must format your HDD you can save your files by burning them to a dvd, and then format. You will have to reinstall all programs, and will need the software CDs to do so

Otherwisae you can run the defrag utility to make your computer access files more efficiently

You may have incompatible memory module. Just put in one memory module in at a time to see if it boots up, this will determine which module was not compatible.
