After a paper jam my printer started printing funny - gap down the middle and wavy edges. I cleaned the cartridges and ran align cartridges. After running the align cartridges tool, the same print quality issues were there AND I got the check printer 5100 error. I unplugged the printer and disconnected from my laptop for about 10 seconds then reconnected. I was able to run the diagnostic again partially but got the check printer 5100 error again.

    Error Code #5100:

I have replaced low printing cartridges. I have checked for loose paper or whatever in printer but did not see anything. The COPY light and ALARM light flash off and on interchageably. This all happened when one sheet of paper did not go in correctly but the right side went in first (at an angle) until the printer stopped. I shut the printer power off and pulled the paper out of printer as half the sheet was still visable.

I had the same problem on my Canon MP530. For me opening the unit up and moving the print cartridge all the way to the right (and then powering off and back on) did not help. Instead I moved my print cartidge to the middle, powered off and then back on again and that seemed to do the trick. Very strange....

I had the same problem . . . error code 5100 and lights flashing. I restarted the printed at least 5 times with no luck. It would print a few pages, and then go back into the error mode. Here's how I finally fixed it:

I turned off the printer and then turned it on to clear out the error. I opened the cover and removed all the print cartridges, as well as the print head assembly (easy to do - just flip the lever up to release it). With everything removed, I turned the printer back on. After the startup procedure, upon prompting from the printer, I put the assembly and all cartridges back in the printer. It then seemed to go into some kind of reset procedure (the magic). After a little while it was ready to print again, and so far no annoying 5100 errors! I hope this helps you!

had the error 5100 after paper jam. It turned out that a small piece of paper remained stuck. After I removed it restarted the printer the error was gone.

I have a Canon MP530. After cleaning the printer head and replacing it... the printer wont power on. I tried the printer head in another MP530 and the same thing happened... no power. I unplugged for an hour or so and when I plug in again, I hear a very quiet electrical pop and still no power. It acts like there is a short but can,t figure out where it would be. Same thing on both printers now. I leave them unplugged then plug back in and hear the same pop sound and no power.

My MP-530 would try to boot up making a noise like something slipping or grinding, ending with ERROR Code 5100.

Solution: Open the Lid. The drive belt was loose and not able to drive the carriage. There is a gear on the right side of the carriage and a pulley on the left side of the carriage. The spring which holds the pulley tight is missing or broken. I was not able to see the tension spring. To put tension on the pulley, to tighten the drive belt, I cut a Popsicle stick into a wedge and inserted it into the middle slot right of the pulley.
Close the lid and power back on. Runs like new. Hope this helps.

Hey. I was having the same problem. I tried everything possible. I then grabbed a light took a closer look and I noticed grease on the clear plastic strip. I wiped both sides of the strip clean and so far it seems to be working great. Have printed 28 pages straight so far! Before it would stop after a few or one page(s) printed. Hopefully this helps some of you! Currently I own a mp 500 and 530. Last thing I need is to buy another printer...

After hearing a screeching noise when the carriage tried to repositioned itself and getting an error 5100, I tried every thing I could think off, but nothing helped. When I read your solution I checked my encoder strip and found found ink on it. I wiped it clean and my problems went away. Thank you so much for this info, I was ready to buy a new printer, I was so frustrated.

In my case (after successful elimination of paper jam with cardboard) the source of error 5100 was ink on the encoder strip:

Solution #8 solved my problem! I noticed there's a black smudge on the right side of the clear plastic strip caused by black ink that overflowed on my CISS. What I did was I just erased it with my thumb and also cleaned the black ink cartridge's gold terminals affected by that overflowed black ink. 'check printer 5100' and 'uo51 check black ink' error was gone! Thanks for this posts and God bless! ---Computerhazard888-sulit

I had the same error code 5100.
After checking the manual I found that the printer carrriage was not moving to the left when I opened the lid. The label on one of the cartridges was lifting up so I removed it altogether, hey presto error code cleared

1st Solution worked great. Thanks!

Had to move the printer cartridge and shut down three times, but it finally kicked in and started working again. Don't give up just trying it once.

2 weeks ago I bought a new MP520. Installed it and printed a test sheet and three photographs and then ERROR 5100
I contacted Canon Support and they sent an Engineer to fix it. It was a simple fix and took less than 20 minutes.
I believe that the MP520 and MP 530 are very similar so this should work,
Lift the lid and behind the Print Carttridge Carriage you will find a plastic strip which apparently tells the nozzles where to drop the ink. Carefully wipe this from end to end with a clean cloth and hopefully, as in my case, problem solved. Good luck

Move the cartridge holder back to the right manually, but carefully - close lid and turn the printer off, then on again.

SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP530 Error Code 5100

OK. It sounds like there's something on the carriage bar restricting the movement of the ink carrier. Perhaps some ink got on the bar.
Try taking a clean lintfree rag dampened with rubbing alcohol and clean the bar. This may have to be repeated a number of times to get the foreign matter off the bar and the ink carriage.
Let me know if this helps. iF it does not we can try something else.
Thanks.

Check printer 5100 error message.

error code 5100 means print head temperature rise error. In other word the print head is overheated. First, turn off your printer for some minutes (it recommended to take about 30 secs or more) and let it's cooled down. Turn on again. If the problem still persist, try to check whether the print head is good or not by comparing with another print head. Be carefully, sometimes this problem is caused by short circuitry inside the print head.

Error 5100 for canon mp530

I would do all of the following and see if yo can clear this code. It is not on any Canon list of possible codes, so I have no idea what it means., but let's do this:

Turn off the printer and unplug it.
Remove the print cartridges. Look at them, are they leak free? Look into the cartridge holders. Are they clean?. Dried ink or blobs should be cleaned off with a little alcohol and a qtip.

Are the little wire holders bent or broken? Do they look exactly the same?

Turn the printer back on reinstall the cartridges.Check in your printer preferences/services and clean your cartridges.

Now turn it off again and unplug it. Open the paper jam door and gently push the paper roller forward until it clicks. At the same time, look for even the tiniest scrap of anything in there.
Close the paper jam door and plug your printer back in. Restart your computer.

If the problem is not solved. You may need to reinstall the printer. Do You have your original disc? Be sure to do a clean install. ( Turn off all running programs in the lower right corner including your virus control. Also go to Toolbar>tools>internet options>general>and delete all you cookies and temporary internet files.) Turn off and unplug your printer.

Reinstall the software. When it is finished if it has not told you to plug your print back in do so now. Restart your computer and turn your printer on.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Canon PIXMA MP450 "Servic Error 5100"

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work
