Is that a CD you bought, or a CD you burned? Not all players are compatible with CDR. It should say so on the player, Compatible with CDR. Then perhaps the CD you tried was damaged or was dirty. Or even the laser of the player could be dirty. Don't open the player. There are CD's with a little brush on it, you can use. It costs a few dollar, but it will keep your player in one piece.

You can try other brands of audio cdr but it sounds like your laser is on it's way out. Some find cdrw's still work after cdr's have stopped being recognised.

It's not the cds that are the problem as they work in other cd players. Its seems to be the denon cd player itself that doesn't seem to be reading the cds.

You could be right, but the error in the player can't be that big.
Sure onbody, not even a child did put something in the player? To make sure, you still have to open it and that won't be an easy job.
