Contact DirecTV's customer service. They have a pretty simple setup system for adding remotes.

An earlier post of the smaller model of this with the same problem said to remove the metal cover over the power supply.

I have the 26MF231D and it worked great afterward (even though you can't mount it)

Here is how you remove the cover.

One of the driver IC'S has gone bad. Need to replace just the driver IC or the board that the IC is on and that should solve your problem. If that doesn't do it, then the BAD NEWS IS THAT THE PANEL IS BAD. Replacement is you only option then. Good luck. GURU JAY.

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're under warranty or you purchased an extended warranty or service plan, the repair costs will be covered.

If you're not in warranty you'll have to pay for the repair. The cost would likely be a minimum of $300+ for parts and labor. The circuit boards in these new LCDs are not cheap at all! I've seen repair costs averaging $450 and up for large LCD TVs.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. I hope I've earned a positive rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Yes, he means 2200 microfarret (called uf from here on out). Another important concern when buying a replacement is the voltage. You need to get something that is at least 25v. I recommend a 35v or better. Another notable point is that this may not always fix the problem. As with mine, there was also a 1200uf (microfarret) 35v capacitor that was blown. You can tell this because they bulge at the top. I have both of these caps (2200uf 35v and 1200uf 35v) on order and they will be here tomorrow. If I do not post back here then they fixed the issue for me. I suspect that this will resolve the problem. Look for bulges on top of the caps. This is an indication that they are blown. Most all of you experiancing these symptoms will see the 2200uf cap bulging but you may also see others bulging too. If you do then you need to replace those too. No electrolitic capacitor should be bulging at the top so if its bulging its bad, and if its bad then your tv will definitely not work. Have fun.

Check the power supply, Y and Z sustain boards caps, fuses, burnt parts first.

Magnavox/samsung 42MF230A/37 plasma t.v. turns on, no picture.

the only way to check it is to change out boards. the "sugar cubes" are ceramic resistors and should get hot. if you have the correct voltages on the p/s then you will need to replace both the y and z boards. better off buying a new tv. consider letting a professional tech. check it for you, this is not something to be tried unless you know what you are doing. if you really want to do it yourself get the service manual and a voltmeter.

Magnavox plasma tv model 42mf230a/37 sound but ni

Replace lower scan converter PCB, which plugged into Y-Sustainer Board, located to the left of the display if you poke back cover open. There are 2 of them, but in some models might be the one, long PCB.don't wait to fix it! otherwise, you will knock out Y-
Sustainer and upper scan converter. That will cause you to spend few hundreds to fix it.

42' plasma magnavox model # 42MF230A has no picture and no sound

I had the same problem with an Insignia 42" 1080p. Turn off the tv power and disconnect all cables (i started with power cable, then HD cables then HDMI). Wait 30 seconds with nothing plugged in, then I plugged everything back in (in reverse order) and it works fine.
