CPSS CONNECTED TO SP1 OF DXX CHASSIS

When I Check for list of CPSS connected on my DXX node , I found one CPSS connected to Serial Port 1 of chassis . Somebody before me has done this now he has left the job. Plz tell me why is this so . Is it necessary to connect CPSS to SP1
